What will the longterm effects of music essentially being free. Will we see more homegrown honest sounding indie like The Glow pt2? Will we possibly see more creativity as more artists will be making music for hobby instead of career.
Im on too many drugs to debate this topic in a constructive way, but I really want to read other people discuss this.

It can only be a good thing.

agreed. but I decided against pursuing a career in the music industry because of how much hate I have for the music industry. I have actual talent , but Im moving my abilities into other areas while I wait to see what happens. Ideally the music industry as we know it collapses and all thats left is people making music in their basements and putting it online. For the art form to progress this is what is needed.
I was expecting more people to have thoughts on the topic, but since it's going slow youll get my ambien riddled opinions thrown in here to tinder the flame.

I don't see any major downsides other than production quality lowering.
Its a far stretch but if everyone is a homegrown artists, there is no masses on money being thrown into albums by an industry, may mean that overall production may be lower.
It may also be harder for musicians to meet musicians outside of their "scene" or local area. Meaning diversity is music could possible be lowered. You read how band members meet each other and its usually doing a session for another artists via connections in the industry.
Music industry isn't going anywhere
As long as people pay to see live music there will be plenty of money around
Keep dreaming though lol

Your right. It would take the musicians being fed up with only making money off tours (which is how it's been for a while). Its unlikely for us to see the music industry completely disappear unless drastic things happen. Musicians getting fed up and moving to self produce.
I like to dream
I like to imagine itll bring back music scenes.
Itll introduce new creative ways of production and different styles. Maybe well see more unique homemade instruments. It's exciting to me desu I really wish the music industry vanished overnight. But after I go to see Brian Wilson in Oct
