Really the best and underrated thing about him was his choice in kicks and snares. See, up to that point a beat either knocked or was warm and jazzy. Dilla brought that together. The kicks and snares knocked hard in the whip, but they still retained that warmth of jazz hop. Now Kanye took that to a new level with unheard of levels of orchesttation, resulting in maybe the best collection of beats ever, The College Dropout
