He was bigger than just himself, considering its a long time ago at this point and people are still devoted fans and thinking about him. hes an inspirational person. That said he's not the only one to do it, just the most extreme

He started out as a power pop version of the Dead Boys, and he was actually decent at writing catchy pop songs. Then hardcore happened, so he gave up on being catchy or following any structure, and just made shitty, vulgar, ranting garage hardcore. Then to get attention he started shitting on stage, fighting his audience, and trying to rape people with his micropenis. If getting attention was his goal then he was certainly successful at it, but calling him a genius might be a bit too charitable.

He's the greatest rock star my state has ever produced. Come to think of it, he's the only one that has.

Like many great outsider artists, his work ranges from terrible to brilliant. His great work is some of the most sincere punk and outlaw music to ever be produced.
