I hope that's true, because that is fucking funny. The thing I fucking hate about people like Christgau and Scaruffi is that they get so autistically obsessive with hating random bands, that are often just kids putting out music. Even if you don't like Sonic Youth, at that point they were kids making really interesting music. At least Lester Bangs was actually witty and intelligent in his criticisms. Richard Hell actually refuses to review anything he doesn't like, because he has enough self-awareness to know his dislikes don't need to be aired out.

They're sure to disagree--what else are they good for--but despite the clanging brutality of their late industrial guitars and the sincerity of their manic (if cliched) depression, in the end the music just serves as a backdrop for their usual sociopathic fantasies and the result isn't ugly or ominous or bombs bursting in the air, it's merely interesting.
