Could anyone please recommend some jazz for someone who likes music with rigid, predictable melodies and a strong beat? Some of my favourite genres are early rock 'n' roll, garage rock, classic country, and blues. The only remotely similar styles of jazz are super-early New Orleans stuff like Louis Armstrong and western swing (which is like 20% jazz at most).
Anything else, or is it a lost cause?

Try count basie orchestra and John Coltrane. Probably won't find too much of what you're looking for but they are damn good.

Alright, thanks. Of those I think Basie might be more up my alley.

yeah, a good question
I've always searched for straightforward jazz with no improvisations which is not big band

The closest I can think of is slightly jazzy rock like "Moondance" which is mostly just the instrumentation

Listen to Dixieland, Big Band, and maybe Jazz Fusion.

>anything that isn't safe and predictable makes me uncomfortable and I feel like I'm too much of a brainlet to follow it
You're missing out on a lot of good music if you're scared of listening to anything that isn't simply structured and predictable. I suggest trying some things outside your comfort zone eventually
