Would ya look at that? It's ban o'clock!

The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

>Woody Shaw - Blackstone Legacy
Lots of trumpet.
7

>Robert Turman - Flux
I had some trouble finding this, but I'm glad I did. Soft, plush minimal synths compose the entire album-- first half is more distinct, listen for that alone.
7

>Of Montreal - The Gay Parade
I take back what I said, about Nickee Coco being too long. Works great in context of the album.
7

>Mother Falcon - You Knew
A 20 piece orchestra does indie pop. The lyrics aren't too great, but the arrangements and melodies are consistently enjoyable.
7

>Grace Jones - Hurricane
I thought they were saying "Anime... man eating machine" on Corporate Cannibal. Still, this album is a testament to how big Albarn fucked up in recording only one line from Grace Jones on Humanz.
6

>Horsepower Productions - In Fine Style
This is a UK garage record, at heart. Wubs are subtle and controlled, and there are some good samples thrown in here, but the first track is the only to stand out for me. Not upset that this may have been one of the inspirations for dubstep as a genre.
6

>goreshit - semantic compositions on death and its meaning
I dislike Max Richter and the first thing this guy does is mix breakcore with Written on the Sky. Don't know about the sources of the next two tracks, but the formula stays the same: breakcore over modern "feel sad" minimal works.
It's an improvement
6

>Unison - Unison
Probably the best that Witch House has to offer. Fairly diverse in dance influences, and actually has some similarities to metal.
6

>Herbie Nichols - Herbie Nichols Trio
The piano here is flatter than I thought it would be, almost sounding like it should be in a different key. In one way, this makes his playing stand out even more, along with Max Roach's titular drumming. In another way, it ends up making the group sound awkward, especially in the first tracks.

>Lolina - Live in Paris
AKA Inga Copeland, a collaborater with Dean Blunt and member of Hype Williams. This is REALLY strange. I can't quite associate it with anything in terms of style, and the choice of using Monopoly as the basis for the performance's presentation doesn't help.
6

>Claro Intelecto - Reform Club
Not quite as minimal as I was led to believe. Lots of strings and synth pads to fill up spaces normally left open, making this a good starting point for someone not just interested in rhythms alone.
6

>Chapelier Fou - 613
Kalia outdoes this in consistency. Their sound works better in mini-album format, the pairing of actual strings with slightly archaic electronics.
6

>Shogun Kunitoki - Tasankokaiku
This is a rock album with its lead guitars replaced with dungeon synths. Not necessarily bad, but felt misaligned.
5

>Elder - Lore
>Classic/Doom metal/rock??
Well, this is a straight rock record. Thick melodic riffs in 10 minute tracks, with jumps in rhythm. Far too active to be something I could call stoner rock, really. Clean production for Metallica music, not really Psych at all.
5

>CFCF - On Vacation
Not as lackluster as Colours, but I would only expect someone to like this if they like actual New Age music, or Torn Hawk. Or Tycho.
5

>Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - Within Mirrors
Paul Clipson made the accompanying video. Serene to watch, but the drone itself unfolds veeeeery slowly and doesn't really connect with the video.
5

>Rhys Fulber - Realism
Four long-ish tracks with industrial and EBM pulls on them.
5

>Ulan Bator - Ego:Echo
French post rock, with Michael Gira on backing vocals. Nothing against it, and the French does debilitate my understanding of it (sorry, Gira), but this did nothing interesting.

>Don Caballero - American Don
The progression on many of these songs are kept under complete control, but there was never any moment that jumped out at me as interesting beyond the playing proficiency. Even less interesting than American Football.
4

>Variety Lights - Central Flow
Really irritating vocals, somehow manages to be unlikable psych pop. Dropped it from a 4 after further re-listening to it, hahah wow how did this turn out to be so awful?
3

>>

Yeah but think about it like this. If your so risk averse, how are you going to take the steps and make the decisions that make a man win in life. The risks that keep the economy going, the risks that make for great stories, adventures and so forth. Every cool thing that could approach you you'll say no. And it's not just you its a large section of an entire generation. Wasting away in their cubicles counting down the time until the day of their death..

Various Artists - West Side Story (1961)
>show tunes, film soundtrack

What lies behind the awful performances here is a collection of truly good songs, composed well by Bernstein and boasting some witty, memorable lyrics from Sondheim. These might be great characteristics, but it is nearly impossible to get past the awful performances. Musicals call for over-the-top, theatrical singing, but that doesn't necessary imply that the singing has to be so affected and strained that it becomes flat-out irritating. The addition of dialogue from the film certainly doesn't help either, unnecessarily muddling the album to the point of absurdity. "Maria" stands out as an absolutely beautiful track, the rest is weak, even if the core components are solid.

2.0+

"Blue" Gene Tyranny - Out of the Blue (1977)
>art pop, progressive pop

I can think of few albums that deserve the moniker of "art" pop more than this one. The first three tracks are certainly poppy in nature, with a few bends towards prog jams here and there, all paving the way for the colossal title track. This title track consists of vast, swirling soundscaping coupled with some of the most beguiling spoken word I've ever heard on record. Sheff is an alum of Ashley's Private Parts, and the title track is very obviously its companion piece, in the best way imaginable. Aside from some less mind-bending moments in the middle two tracks, this is pretty much just as cool as you made it out to be, blapp.

>>
Porcupine Tree - Fear Of A Blank Planet
I bet autism feels like this album sounds.
2.5+

Deafheaven - SUN BAT HER
The opening track, 'Dream House,' is something so incredibly steeped in melodrama I can't help but love it, the cathartic repeated phrase "I WANT TO DREAM" is just sublime in an inexplicable way along with the lead guitar.
The albums pattern of inserting more atmospheric cuts between their 10+ minute long black-gays works well enough to make the "actual" songs more impactful by contrast.
These things said, holy shit do they fall off after 'Dream House.' Their one-note post rock's main saving grace is the drumming, and I swear 'Vertigo' rips a guitar part straight from GY!BE's '09-15-00.'

Young Thug - Beautiful Thugger Girls (2017)
>trap rap, pop rap, contemporary R&B, southern hip hop

Save for some weirdly good country rap songs, this is standard trap stuff. It's got more of a poppy, R&B flavor than anything else of Thugger's, which sometimes works very well, as there's a level of focus here that's not present on Barter 6 or JEFFERY. While there's more focus, the emphasis on pop songwriting sucks the flavor and individuality out of Thugger's sound, making a collection of songs that wouldn't seem out of place on a Drake album.

2.0+

Converge - I Can Tell You About Pain (2017)
>metalcore, mathcore

Oh man, this has me hyped for their next full length. Age hasn't hurt a single bit of Converge's urgency or technical prowess, both displayed wonderfully on "Eve", one of the band's best songs. The title track is a decent, totally forgettable little post-hardcore exercise, but it's the sprawling "Eve", with its tastes of sludge metal and prog, that make this EP worthwhile, and arguably essential.

3.0

Rex Orange County - Apricot Princess (2017)
>contemporary R&B

3/4 decent, totally forgettable R&B, 1/4 absolutely incredible indie rock/pop. Being as young as he is (he's a year older than me, fuck), O'Connor's love songs come from a totally authentic place, and his vocals are filled with wonder and joy simply towards the feeling of love, it's really contagious. This authenticity in the vocals and lyrics can't excuse the basic, bland R&B songs, though. They're pleasant and unobtrusive, and that's the problem. It's the problem especially since the more rock-tinged tracks here show another side of O'Connor's sound that's much more interesting. "Never Enough" is a pounding, exuberant track that perfectly describes teenage love. I can't recommend that track enough, the rest of the album I'm more mixed on.

Realize it by knowing what album had a huge impact on your taste, or what album you'd probably never get sick of. One of my 10/10's got me to splurge older progressive electronic music and obscure labels to find something equally as atmospheric, and Replica was what introduced me to the more experimental side of modern music.

平沢進 - 救済の技法 (Kyuusai no Gihou) (1998)
>progressive pop, art pop, progressive electronic

Simultaneously forward-thinking and just a little bit dated, but all really, really cool. Hirasawa's pop here might not be that incredible (despite the production), but his electronic/ambient forays are amazing. Some of the most evocative, densely orchestrated ambient is on display here, perfectly conjuring futuristic city displays, despite the relatively simplistic MIDI instrumentation. Super cool, super crazy.

>Television - Marquee Moon (1977)

This is an album you have to deliberately separate from its reputation. It can't be overstated just how influential this sound has been on indie rock for generations, and an untold amount of successful bands in the past 10 years have more or less replicated this same formula--conscientiously pretty and emotional instrumentals one wouldn't typically find in true punk rock backed by vocals delivered seemingly with some vague degree of irony. These guys rightfully get credibility for their influence on so much music, and it's a shame they haven't really seen more popularity outside collectors and the internet literati. I also want to say those who decry dad rock are closer to an appreciation for it than they might expect if they dig this album, which is a beautiful thing.

This is some deceptively accessible and plainly enjoyable music that feels as close to any other popular music from the 70s as it does punk rock, which is often just too easy to pinpoint by vocal delivery. The vocals here are unfortunately a weak point, as they do come across as Mick Jagger worship, and only occasionally have a discernible and composed melody. They're not too bad, but they're just outshined by some deliberately and dynamic and thorough compositions all throughout that even get stretched out at points. Listen close: it's closer to some jam stuff than punk rock at these moments.

Cat Chamber - Demos [Letov]

Sorry man this is just trash. Rightly called demos as it's just some recordings of a father playing guitar with his smol daughter singing/shrieking over it, there's no depth to this, I see no reason as to why anybody would listen to it other than for pure novelty. Children of sunshine did this so much better. Didn't bother finishing.

not really similar in sound but this record reminds me a lot of danse manatee by anco
>>
>>74411118
danse manatee is really good. i love the drumming. isn't panda bear the guy that does the percussion on anco records?
>>

>i thought the normal, soft vocal jazz tracks were kind of lame
that's a shame. i liked how they stood on their own and especially how they contrasted the b side. they have a spacious quality to them i haven't heard in much other vocal jazz.
most of her other stuff is like BLAAAAAAAAACK if you're interested in that.
>>

>>
>>74411166
yep he's the drummer on p much all anco stuff. danse manatee is mad underrated, with meet the light child being one of the best tracks in their discography.

also something I want to share about twin infinitives: I think what really made the record for me was it ending with "NY Avenue Bridge". It brings a sense of closure and it really sticks all of the pieces together. I get that same feeling from Bring Me Coffee or Tea in Tago Mago but here it really puts things in a new perspective.

>>74411204

idk why but the soft jazz pieces were kind of grating because I always expected her voice to go some steps deeper, don't know how to really explain. It was in a way keeping me blueballed. Will check out her other stuff if I ever crave freakouts like the bleeeck stuff.

i kind of liked how restrained it felt. it felt like it was being preformed perfectly, but something was still uncomfortably off.

Old Time Relijun - Witchcraft Rebellion
Hella - Church Gone Wild/Chirpin' Hard
are kinda similar
>>
>>74411387
for sure
i never got why people absolutely shit on danse manatee. i mean critics unanimously were giving it around a 3/10, which isn't fair at all. it shows off some killer drumming chops and incredibly creative and manic use of electronics. there really isn't a drab moment on all 45-ish minutes of the thing.

also! i just remembered pic related exists which is extremely similar to twin infinitives. so i guess i just answered my own question. this quite an overlooked album in their discog.

I need to give this another fair listen. It has a well wrought atmosphere, but the synth palate grew tiring after a while. I would appreciated this more if it was shorter, more concise, and had more of a dramatic arc to it (so to say). As it stands, the album just sort of meanders in it's decent mediocrity.

i just got hit with the stunning realization that i leave in three weeks and it's fucking bizarre

Eliane Radigue - Trilogie de la mort (1998)
>drone

Listening to this while driving is a really surreal experience. I had this on while driving through construction, and hearing light jackhammer noises on top of the foreboding drones was cool as hell. Disregarding this anecdotal experience, this really is one of the most enveloping albums I've ever listened to. Sure, the three hour runtime definitely helps it in this aspect, even disregarding that there's a cerebral aspect to these drones that makes them even more hypnotic than the average drone piece. The second and third pieces drag a bit, especially compared to the absolutely stunning "Kyema", and I can't deny that it really takes a certain mood to be in for three hours of drone. I'm only nitpicking, though, this is great.

3.0+

Stina Nordenstam - And She Closed Her Eyes (1994)
>singer/songwriter, dream pop

A lot of this, mainly Nordenstam's vocal tics, reminds me of a less interesting Björk in a lot of ways. The vocals may be just as amazing, but the songwriting and the instrumentation aren't nearly as rule-breaking or interesting. In fact, it gets straight-up boring at times. The guitar-based songs are the best (I love how the album starts with a resonant guitar strum attacking the left channel), while the piano-based songs along with the jazz-influenced pieces meander along with little to no direction, ending with absolutely no fanfare. It's a style that would be fine if used sparingly, but the 49 minutes here would be better spent somewhere else.

Danny L Harle - 1UL (2017)
>electropop, bubblegum bass

Broken Flowers at least has one good hook to keep it afloat ("lying awake for hours, with just your broken flowers" is a line that plagues me 24/7, it is /way/ too catchy). This is a whole lot of sparkly, well-produced nothing. "Me4U" is decent enough, the other three tracks are nothing but bland, sugar-coated pop. Harle's style of bubblegum bass is too firmly rooted in normal pop to really leave an impression. It's too out-there and cloying to function well as house-influenced, danceable pop; too forgettably normal and basic to make waves in the realm of bubblegum bass and PC Music. Can't say I get the hype behind this guy at all.

>Maurizio - MCD
I don't quite know why, but a good number of these tracks remind me of really old PS2 games and the sorts. That aside, this is a lot more comfy and "upbeat" then Basic Channel's other stuff. Its a bit more of an approachable atmosphere, and a very at that.
3.5+
>Arditti String Quartet - Arnold Schoenberg 2: Streichquartette I-IV
God fucking damn this is crazy. What we have here is the line between old and new, between beauty and ugly, between concise and crazy. Schoenberg blends these with relative ease, alternating back and forth seemlessly. These compositions clearly made their mark on future composers to come, and rightfully so. I haven't heard much classical, but this is probably the best I've heard yet.

>Ryo Fukui - Scenery
Fukui's ability to breath new life into jazz standards so effortlessly is astounding. The fact that he's self taught and released album of the quality only six years into playing is astounding. The trio he plays in throughout provide interesting yet not overly complex solos which leads to an easy listening experience, almost like listening to scenery.
>Xiu Xiu - Forget
Extremely interesting album, I've never heard them before except for a bit of their cover of Twin Peaks. What was so interesting was the overall flow of the album, the first track immediately grabs your attention but afterward there's just a lot of harsh undertones beneath the tracks.

in typical english major fashion i just applied for an on-campus barista job

Shunkan - Honey, Milk and Blood (2014)
>lo-fi indie, noise pop

Awful production, even for the genre, ruins an otherwise moderately decent noise pop album. The songwriting here generally improves as the EP goes on, but the basic sound is incredibly derivative, it can't even hold a 20-minute EP without losing steam. There's potential, but it's mostly squandered here.

2.0

Head Machine - Orgasm (1970)
>heavy psych, hard rock, progressive rock

Ultra-conventional done pretty well. The shorter tracks are watered-down versions of a style done a thousand times better by a thousand different bands, but the album really comes into its own on the longer tracks. They nail the style changes and mood shifts of prog perfectly, while never losing their hard rock edge. This is pretty decent, nothing special but a fun listen.

2.5+

Hapshash & The Coloured Coat - Featuring the Human Host and the Heavy Metal Kids (1967)
>psychedelic rock

One hot mess of an album, but one of the most colorful, varied psych albums of the '60s. This seems to have a bit of a reputation as an outsider-esque album in the vein of Contact High.. or Orgasm, despite being pretty grounded. The freakouts are sublime, but they're the kind of freakouts you'd expect in '60s psychedelia. The three middle tracks don't reach the highs of the bookends, despite that this is solid all the way through. Special points for being the first use of "heavy metal" in a musical context.

3.0-

Thorr's Hammer - Dommedagsnatt (1996)
>death doom metal

Sunn O))) doing doom with an incredible vocalist, sign me up. The title track is a bit of a drag, the rest is damn great. Gammelsæter is an absolutely incredible vocalist, doing clean and guttural styles perfectly, and O'Malley and Anderson's dual guitar work is exceptionally brutal. Check this out.

3.0+
>>
Meat Puppets - Meat Puppets (1982)
>hardcore punk, noise rock, punk rock\

Gotta agree with the critical consensus here: they'd get much better. The guitar work, even in the band's primitive stage, is still exceptional, hypnotic in the weirdest of ways. They don't have terribly much more to offer though. Their style of noise rock is weird and unhinged, but in the least listenable way possible. Brief shreds of the cowpunk they perfect on II and Up on the Sun is visible here and there, but it's too sparing for this to be that good.

Been mostly preoccupied with artists that I am currently listening to with the exception of the new Dirty Projectors album;

>CAN - Tago Mago. Holy crackers, I don't know what that was but it was really good.
>Dirty Projectors - s/t. I feel this is what Kanye would sound like if he wasn't a hip-hop artist. This is far better than I was expecting. For some reason I thought it was going to be pretty acoustic ballads with some dance-able tunes thrown in for good measure. Cool Your Heart has all these samples that sound like the song is being re-winded constantly in tempo with the synthesizers, its really quite something.

Also tfw captcha freezes and you have to copy your reply, refresh and paste it back.

It's good but lacked something extra to make it jump at my ears. I disagree with the majority that says the drumming was lackluster because I'm also a sucker for locking grooves with improv over it.

Tbh my rating system is a bit deceiving, a 5/5 is not among my favorite albums of all time but more like a 8-9/10 for most people. I rate out of 6, with a 6 being reserved for all time favorites, so I decided to ditch that rating on my charts as I won't give it out anyways. I agree that DBtS is definitely not perfect, but I really liked it after the first few listens (Pacemaker is such a great banger). Let's see if it holds up.

I'll do a film review and then the listenalong.

>Иди и cмoтpи [Come and See] (1985)

I'll say upfront that I don't believe this film is more than an examination of horror. I have to disagree with everyone mentioning political aims or accusing this film of being one-sided propaganda, which I think is a spectacular misreading because politics is almost never discussed, and the climax in which it is discussed makes the point clear that there are no answers to find. In that respect, there need not be long debates or lectures about thematic content outside of technical aspects, because this is quite a plainly stated film.

It also happens to have some of the most horrific scenes that can stick with a viewer, and by the film's end just about everything innocent and right is crushed. The clear appeal here is to our emotions. There are no longwinded diatribes about the nature of war or mortality, and the protagonist stops speaking altogether halfway into the film as his condition progresses from denial to numb resignation, only looking up into the sky for reason and a witness to the unbearable absurdity.

Not inaccurate=/=not propaganda. It's p easy to see how it venerates the Red Army as humble proles merely defending their country and demonises the Wermacht as inhumane monsters. It might be confusing since this is not far from the truth/consensus (at this stage of the war) but that in and of itself is a political message, making the film propaganda. No amount of platitudes about the horrors of war can change that. Also it's part of a massive culture industry funded and controlled by the state on ideological grounds. That's also p propagandish.
>I'll say upfront that I don't believe this film is more than an examination of horror. I have to disagree with everyone mentioning political aims or accusing this film of being one-sided propaganda, which I think is a spectacular misreading because politics is almost never discussed

I do hear you. The climax I was talking about is the scene under the bridge where they have the SS officers, mirroring the long and infamous scene just before. I think there are plenty of ways people read into what the director is trying to communicate there, but I think he's drawing a connection. In the same way that the opening scene of the Red Army entering the protagonist's house at the beginning is mirrored later on by the SS.
>>
>>74426941
Only the Red Army visit is contextualised as a warning sing of the front line creeping up to the farmhouse and the killing of the SS officers comes after an atrocity so spectacular it's hard not to sympathise with the protagonist still.
>>

not him but younger than yesterday and fifth dimension best fit what you want

try notorious Byrd Brothers and sweetheart of the rodeo if you want country

and try everything before fifth dimension for kinda bland but will very enjoyable proto Jangle pop

begin is incredible btw
>>
>>74426930
No prob. It's sacrilege, but I actually think the Greatest Hits album from 1967 is the key, since the early stuff just has great songs here and there and isn't necessarily consistent. And then they progressed in tons of different ways starting with 5th Dimension through like 1970, and you'll just have to poke around and decide which sound you like best.
>>
>>74427010
You're right. Nonetheless, people are missing something if they walk away from this film with some political message over everything else it's communicating.

Kraftwerk fucking killed it! The visuals were great, the music felt fresh and retro, chilled and energetic, holy shit. Tour de France was one of the best performances I've ever seen.

Eric Cloutier gave a great show, it wasn't very daring but it was tight as fuck. It's one of the few sets that's recorded in it's entirety.

Maceo Plex actually surprised me, half the set was p good. He closed with a track I'm trying to discover, it felt so grand and amazing but I have no idea how I'm going to find the track.

And holy shit Paula Temple. What a fucking monster. Dancing away at 9 am to those glorious industrial sounds is something I'll remember forever.

>The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2
>Lo-fi Indie Folk

Starts off REALLY strong, peters out but manages to work for a whole hour. The acoustic guitar tends to get annoying (sounding almost like a ukulele), as well as the reoccurring sound featured most prominently in My Warm Blood, but I think this album's going to grow on me.
...and Nodima's review on the rym page makes me want to throw up.

7/10

>Godspeed You! Black Empereror - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To The Heaven
First exposure to post rock, some 4 years ago. Wouldn't say it's earth-shattering as some people would lead you to believe, it's simply a pleasure to immerse yourself everyone once in a while. Agreeing with denji, in that moments are scattered, but I didn't find the album tiring to get through for its size/track lengths. I prefer F#A#.

7/10

>Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
This was more ambient than I remembered, but many of the tracks here stand out by themselves, no matter what they're length. Helpless Child sounds like an entire horror film crushed into a brooding and suppressed 15 minutes, and Volcano is just as filthy and lust-crazed as I remember it. The vocal loops on tracks used on tracks like The Beautiful Days somehow fit perfectly into the simultaneously heavenly and foreboding ambiance. More traditional noise rock songs like All Lined Up and Yum-Yab Killers balance out the more static pieces.

The Sound seems to follow up after Helpless Child, and Hypogirl stinks of freak folk. After some a succession of slowcore, I Love You This Much comes in like the fuckin antichrist. If that track's the scarlet beast, YRP is the scarlet woman.

I'd prefer something like this to GS!BE for fully indulging in the darkness you'd expect from a genre like post-rock.

I listened to that album not too long ago and it's the only track I remember. Super beautiful. You heard the original cast recording and not the film soundtrack right? Two very different albums and the former is objectively better.

>>74425515
"The Zomba promo" version is what you're looking for. It has the most samples + an extra track.

Rule of thumb for SILY editions: the later the version of the album the less the content. Usually this is due to them not clearing most of their thousands of samples. My vinyl version, for example, is 100% inferior. So much cut content and they absolutely ruined the final track.

Kevin Saunderson - Faces & Phases (1996)
>detroit techno, house, tech house

We'll see how I feel about Atkins' comp, but as of now Saunderson is by and large my favorite producer of the Belleville Three. Detroit techno is generally a very bubbly, upbeat genre, characteristics that Saunderson completely eschews in favor of a dark, tech house-influenced sound. Good detroit techno evokes images of urban city life, and this does that better than any other detroit techno release I've ever heard. It's dark, eerie, and most importantly it absolutely bangs.

fish i'm sorry

New Order - Movement (1981)
>post-punk

A very haphazard attempt by the band to get it together after Ian Curtis' death. There aren't just shades of the late singer on this album, the whole thing sounds like the lost third Joy Division album, down to Sumner's weird, off-putting impression. Gilbert's keyboards add an extra layer to the sound that distinguishes the album from Unknown Pleasures or Closer, more indicative of the band's upcoming synthpop sound. Other than that, bog-standard all the way through. Opener slays though, and I'm always down to here this band's amazing rhythm section.

2.0+

XTC - Drums and Wires (1979)
>new wave, pop rock, post-punk

Stands head and shoulders above English Settlement without a doubt. Not only is their later album very obviously bloated, it's songwriting is much too comfortable and smooth around the edges. The songwriting here is much, /much/ more urgent and jagged, and the band is all the better because of it. There are some tracks in the middle that are a bit so-so, though the band's ear for melody and their seasless drive for experimentation keeps even the weakest tracks entertaining. Doesn't get much better than the bookends though. "Making Plans for Nigel" is an impeccable pop track, and "Complicated Game" has a beautifully schizoid vocal performance from Partridge. Great stuff.

>Natural Snow Building - The Dance of the Moon and the Sun
I could easily see this being the soundtrack to my first semester of college. To me, this album sounds like if Stars of the Lid and Phil Elverum had a lovechild. It's full of warm, wintery drones, and beautiful, melancholy folk tunes. It's so inviting, charming, and incredibly easy to get lost in. I realize I'm falling for the meme with this one, but this album gets all the praise it gets for a very good reason.

Fehlfarben - Monarchie und Alltag (1980)
>neue deutsche welle, post-punk

Edgy deutsche-punk: fun, gritty, and biting. The production is this album's best asset, every single instrument hits perfectly, especially the drums. There's a clear link to Joy Division and co., mainly lying in the melodic, bouncy bass lines that give this an odd poppy aspect. Some of the poppier tracks lack the energy and intensity that make long, sprawling tracks like "Paul ist tot" so great, even though they still hold a very distinct charm of their own. Essential for any post-punk fan.

>Jandek - I Threw You Away
This is my favourite Jandek album by far (from what I've heard). The guitar is beautiful, but it's mostly about the lyrics. The lyrics are absolutely harrowing, I've seldomly heard something so beautifully depressing. 'Frozen Beauty' is especially beautiful.
I pray at your gravestone / Remembering when / You walked my path / You slept in my bed / It’s a long, long time / I’ve got a pain in my head

>Joey Bada$$ - All-Amerikkkan Bada$$
Joey has been going downhill since his mixtapes imo. B4.DA.$$ had quite a few great tracks, but this album really only has two. 'Devastated' is a great dance song and 'Babylon' is a good hiphop song, but that's about it. Quite a shame, because I do really enjoy his flow and some of his beats, but all of the songs fall short in some way.

This album is real good. The shapes it builds are marvelous. My favorite songs are soldier and masseuse, but none of the others hold me nearly as well. I think it will take me a while to warm up to the rest of the record. If at all.

Also, it reminds me of the temporally-ambiguous environments and figures in the paintings of Odd Nerdrum
Which I like

For Eric:

https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/lionel_marchetti_and_yoko_higashi/petrole/

This is another electroacoustic release tho p different from Parmegiani. To me, it tells a story without using any words in a very eerie way. Whether this was the intention or not, I'm not really sure of but it's damn great either way.

congrats on somehow finding a vaguer, more iq89 critical term than ``textures." It takes real effort to be this much of an embryo

Gonna need ~30 min tapes again for the next round. Same parameters, no restrictions. Jim, Mark, Ethy and nyarl progressed if it wasn't clear.

Nothing in particular stood out, it was just a solid house mix.
Deadline is whenever I get tired of waiting and decide to drop the tourney.

Bobb Trimble - Iron Curtain Innocence
[1980]

Weird, kind of goofy folk. The singer's voice is definitely unique and works pretty well when he's trying to do songs on the spooky/atmospheric side of things, but there's also a lot of plain unremarkable pieces on here too. I'd say this is uuuh mad decent.
With that said, our guy here gets the fourth place out of six (so far)

Oh yeah, caviarr and chrigo & his girlfriend will be 3 of the cuts unless they gimme a (You). The Hospice RNG spot will be the other cut.
