I've heard good things about Ibanez budget GIO series.

I own an RG421 and it plays great.

That's how people end up with new guitars that are no good - they buy online or don't play them properly instore.

You need to spend time with a guitar to work out whether it works how you want it to - a row of seemingly identical guitars will all behave differently.
