What old artist has had the longest lasting impact?
I'd say Sabbath because out of all the old musicians I've seen live they had the most age diverse crowd.

the first caveman who decided to bang rocks together and make a rhythm

Yeah, this geezer

The Beatles are far as rock/pop goes. No Sabbath without Helter Skelter and She's So Heavy.

I think Paul McCartney's shows have a pretty wide age range of people as well, it's not like, say, Styx where there's nothing but 50 year olds with graying mullets.

Yes, Paul has said he's surprised at the multi-generational crowds that come to his shows.

Punk/alternative bands from the 70s-80s have a more wide age range of fans because many of them have cult cred. Buttrock bands like REO Speedwagon however, the people into them are just >>74386206.
Bruce Springsteen has fans with a lunatic level of devotion...but they're all over 40, I've never seen a Millenial who gave a fuck about him.

Mac DeMarco. He literally ripped off a Springsteen album cover.
If Jimi Hendrix were still around, you'd probably see multiple generations of people at his shows.

yep.

Lyl I saw Styx at a casino once (I got free tickets). It was all drunken dudes in their 40s-50s like you said and they were singing along to the chorus of the songs. The band were playing a greatest hits setlist and seemed to be having a blast.

True, but he'd probably suck shit.

He's right you know

I'm not saying I'd be enthusiastic about a guy in his 70s singing Foxy Lady.

It'd be funny to see what that would've looked like if he ended up living long enough to do something tragic like a Christmas album or get fat and become a sit down guitarist.
Rolling Stones fans are all old, rich doctors and lawyers with ponytails.

He'd probably delve more into jazz, honestly, and we'd have psychodelic jazz - we do know he was planning on forming a group with Miles Davis and Tony Williams, so psych jazz might've been his style after all. Probably would do something like collaborate with Bob Dylan for an album of Dylan covers with that style that he developed over the years around his 50s, honestly.

Maybe Bob Dylan wouldn't have done something tragic like a Christmas album if he still had his cool friend around to do cool drugs and make cool folk blues rock collabs with.
