Also, Wolf's Lair Abyss EP was really fucking great, that rawness with Maniac's best vocals was really something, but yeah DMDS is their best record, though I liked how they experimented with their sound on Declaration and their later outputs are also good. People who shit on Mayhem after DMDS are retards and this trend is a bit retarded, but then again, as you've already mentioned, it's applicable on a lot of bands, especially from osdm and Norway's bm scene. Though there's always bands like Emperor whom grow better as they go on.

What is with Slav grills and their trendy love for gimmicky black metal?

I will never have a power metal phase anymore in my life. I just know it.
Somehow, when that itch scratches, judas priest got me covered on all fronts. Yeah I know, that stuff is not exactly power metal but it covers the same grounds in terms of what the music conveys. So yeah. Judas priest forever.

Also Bruce Dickinson solo stuff is nice. Chemical Wedding, Tyranny of Souls and Accident of Birth are all excellent albums. As a bonus, chemical wedding offers the most stunning and tasteful use of extremely downtuned guitars that ever happened in metal. B/A tunings and such.

That's cool. I love unusual recording processes. It's so easy to get lazy when all you have is protools, standard booths for all instruments and the comfort of recording riff-by-riff and doing some copy paste work later.
I liked the way darkthrone recorded some of their stuff, just mic the guitar and drums with a single microphone to keep the organic back and forth between live musicians intact.
"Live in the studio" albums like slayer - live undead are a favorite of mine for the same reason (also the hilarious "fans" in the room crack me up)

Same, but Colored Sands is an album any of the many contemporary tech death bands that took cue from bands like Gorguts could have released. It's possibly the least Gorguts Gorguts album and, in this context, it was a big let-down. Pleyades' Dust didn't help matter at all, either.

Disclaimer, Threshold is not really thrash, but I couldn't think of anything else that was psychedelic and had some punch to it that wasn't black metal. Stick to their first two or three albums.
