It's partially because Bono's a bit of a twat, but also because since the early 2000s they've hardly released anything worth listening to while they're older stuff isn't old enough to get the major cultural reverance that stuff by, for example, a band like the Rolling Stones' has.

Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, and Zooropa are all masterpieces.

Boy, October, and War are great. The rest is pretty lousy.
