Reminder that glam is the most non nu-male genre in metal

Why? Because it died in the early 90s. Back then there were no liberal nu-male political correct idiots, so they didn't contaminate it like they did with black, death and thrash. I mean there are vegan and feminist black and death bands out there. You can't make this shit up

>but glam is not metal

This shit is better for headbanging that most of your nu-male crap you listen

Black Metal:
>M8?8T? [M8L8TH]: Russian/Ukrainian Black Metal with a distinct folksy RAC influence. Their latest album has a wonderful blend of clean and harsh vocals.
>Nachtgeblüt: Argentinian Black Metal/Neoclassical crossover project of Eviigne. Previous albums had some classical pieces metallicized, but "Dying Echos of a Past Forlorn" highlights Eviigne's talents as a musician.
>Campo de Mayo: Another project of Eviigne. The music here is much harsher and more direct with fiercely anti-communist lyrics and songs glorifying the regime of Jorge Rafael Videla, infamous for putting communist dissidents on death flights.
>Kristallnacht: Their entire discography on one album. Raw French Black Metal with plenty of harsh tremolo picked lines. Pretty standard.
>Dub Buk: Highly folksy Ukrainian Black Metal with foot-stomping riffs, gang shouts and flutes.
>Grand Belial's Key: A US NS Black Metal classic. Not only one of the most intentionally hilarious Black Metal bands, but also one of the most intentionally hilarious NS Black Metal bands. Anti-Judeo-Christian lyrics with plenty of potshots at Jews and Jesus.
>Fanisk: Another US NS Black Metal classic. Epic keyboard-driven passages and walls of tremolo craft a fantastic atmosphere transporting you to somewhere beyond space and time.
>Absurd: All their classic tunes rerecorded for a new generation. Those who found their earlier work childish, raw and amateurish will appreciate the dedication from the new band to polish the old tunes into something quite powerful.
>Der Stürmer: Harsh Greek NS Black Metal with members active in Golden Dawn. Plenty of fast, furious, tremolo-picked power chords and feral shouts.
>Veles: Polish NS Black Metal classic.
>Graveland: Another Polish NS Black Metal classic. Slow, epic passages crafting an atmosphere of Viking warriors charging into battle with lyrics influenced by Ron McVan
>>
>Morbid Angel
>ever being good
Altars was their best and it's still bland overall.
>>
Black Metal (cont):
>Te??o?op? [Temnozor]: Russian Folk/Black Metal crossover. Pagan lyrics and epic passages with clean and harsh vocals.
>Pantheon: USNSBM concept album. Much of their discography sucks, but they struck gold once with this concept album.
>Spear of Longinus: Australian NS Black Metal with a distinct old school influence. Hellhammer and Celtic Frost fans will enjoy this. Loads of lyrics of Nazi mysticism and Hinduism.
>Genocide: Thrashy Chilean Black Metal.
>Sombre Chemin: French Black Metal with an RAC undercurrent. Imagine early Absurd with Burzum-like atmosphere.
>Totenburg: Triumphant, but fierce German Black Metal that packs quite a punch. Like later Absurd with more aggression and thrashiness.
>Peste Noire: National Anarchist Black Metal with a very faint folksy influence. Plenty of feral vocals and blast beats with tremolo picked lines from hell.
>Aryan Blood: German Black Metal influenced by old school Heavy Metal. Worth it for "To Build an Empire" alone.
>Mjölnir: Unique German Black Metal with melodic and symphonic influences that craft a distinct atmosphere. Think old Lucifugum mixed in with Bathory, Enslaved, and Nokturnal Mortum.
>Naastrand: When traditional French folk songs discover Black Metal. Very unique and quite powerful.
>Wolfnacht: "Night of the Werewolf" is the best thing they've done. Everything else is rather mediocre Darkthrone worship, but the debut has some Absurd influences.
>Thunderbolt: The Polish lovechild of Emperor and Dissection. The atmospheric interludes are implemented nicely, rather than feeling superfluous. In a word, tasteful.
>Bannerwar: Greek Black Metal with bright tone elevated by a of the guitar melodies, a symphonic regalia of the pianos and keyboards, and a bloodied rasp of its front man. Energetic anthems bearing a semblance to Emperor's In the Nightside Eclipse, though not strikingly so. Don't expect much RAC influences. Even their cover of Blue Eyed Devil's "Eternal Fight" sounds grim

Heavy Metal:
>RaHoWa: A sore subject, but George Burdi sure tried his damndest to channel Peter Steele. This album is pure Type O Negative worship with some awesome songs and terrible songs. The best are "Man Against Time," "Hall of the Heroes," "In the Fires of 1945," "The Last Battalion" and "God Is Dead". The cover of "The Snow Fell" is great, too.
>Honor: Epic Viking Metal with plenty of charging riffs and passages similar to Manowar and Graveland. The English version is superior to the Polish version, so track that one down. For some reason, the Polish mastering is horrible.
>Fortress: Incredible Heavy Metal from down under. NWOBHM-influenced Metal with an epic heavy ballad "Southern Birth, Northern Soul"
>Warlord: NWOBHM-influenced Metal from Skrewdriver guitarist Steve "Stigger" Calladine. Anti-Islamic "Jihad Joe" will make you crack a smile and "The South Will Rise Again" will make you unfurl your Rebel Flag.
>Excalibur: Czech Metal legends. Later albums go into Death Metal territory, but the debut has epic Metallica-influenced riffs and plenty of headbanging sections in spite of the awkward English.
>Buldok: Similar to Excalibur, but much more influenced by Dokken and Manowar, making the album sound surprisingly American. The Czech songs are better, but "Mission Spandau" has this saxophone section that always makes me smile.
>Spirit of 88: Heavy/Groove Metal solo project of a German musician. Catchy riffs in spite of the awkward vocals.
>Bomber: German Motörhead-influenced Heavy Metal from drummer/vocalist Kalle. Plenty of catchy riffs and feral vocals.
>Estirpe Imperial: Spanish Metal legends with Iron Maiden-esque riffs and patriotic lyrics.
>Kontingent 88: French Heavy Metal/Hard Rock with thoughtful lyrics and epic riffs. Easily my favorite out of all these.

Thrash Metal:
>The Raunchous Brothers: When The Mentors discovered Teutonic Thrash. "Faggot Bolshevik" alone is quite a statement.
>Mudoven: if the Cro-Mags were racist, they'd be Mudoven. Solo-project of Vaginal Jesus guitarist Jim Crow, a purported veteran in Massachusetts hardcore underground. "Back to Africa" and "Green God" are classics.
>Bound For Glory: American RAC legends who fully underwent metalmorphosis on "The Fight Goes On." Every album after is just as great, but the songs here rule. "We've Got Your Number," "Doctor Marten Dental Plan," "Our Voice Is Stronger" and "Welcome" are testaments to the band's fury.
>Death's Head: Australian Thrash Metal with a distinct Hardcore influence. Perfect for moshing.
>Durandal: Slayer fans rejoice! French Thrash Metal with riffs distinctly influenced by Slayer and other American Thrash legends. The whole album is the best France has to offer.
>Frakass: The French Nationalist version of The Exploited. Moshable riffs and a great vocalist to boot.
>Ultimatum: A lesser version of Frakass. Riffs are still good, though.
>In Tyrannos: Slayer-influenced Metal project of German legend Daniel "Gigi" Giese. Loads of lyrics about the Freemasons, WWI, the Jews, 9/11 and other great topics abound.
>Iron Youth: Greek Thrash Metal. Everything else they produced is mediocre, but at least they got it right here.
>Squadron: RAC legends go Thrash here. Plenty of Hardcore-influenced riffage, but "Death Before Dishonour" will make you want to mount your horse and charge straight into battle.
>?oppo??? Me?a??a [Korrozia Metalla]: Vulgar Russian Thrash legends. This album is when the band started to let it slip they aren't exactly tolerant. "K.K.K" gives some obvious hints, and the anti-Arab song from the following album would solidify their political stance.
>?o?o?pa? [Kolovrat]: Even more explicit racist Russian Thrash. The playing here is very tight and the music has great production values to boot.
>>
>>74343679
TELL ME WHAT YOU KNOW
>>
Death Metal:
>Arghoslent: American Death Metal with thrashy heavy riffs similar to those of Manilla Road. Loads of lyrics about slavery, conquest and, of course, the Holocaust.
>Berserkr: American Death'n'Roll/Groove Metal with incredible production values. Fans of Entombed, '90s Sepultura and Pantera will enjoy this.
>Vaginal Jesus: Hilarious Grindcore with a Seth Putnam connection; hilarious lyrics and nasty riffs abound.

Glam is pop with metal guitars. You could as well listen to Backstreet Boys and call them alpha.
>>
>>74343679
Trap rap + guitars wouldn't work
Its logical progression would be even more distorted beats with screams over it, to the point where it's almost close to blackened noise but without instruments

Baph is an amalgamation of most idols that were around at the time of Christianity's settled formation (adoption by rome).
It's the negative pulling force to whatever the Catholic church demands. They're the "rock" of the church for that reason.

It's utterly blind to macrocosmic systems.

Ba'al, refered in the Bible in the plural, is used as a generic name for all non-Israelite deities, especially the ones worshipped by canaanites and phillistines. It's not described in detail, but one point they make is that they were offered meat that would rot and its sanctuaries would usually be swarmed by flies.

Not sure where you got the "old testament god was named baal" thing.

>>74347209
Beelzebub, like Ba'al, is a generic name that comes from phillistine tradition. The "satan" as proposed by christians is not an actual figure in the old testament. There are several forces of evil but none of them are pointed out as the One Prince of Evil.
>Is it a coincidence that people worshipped goat-headed idols at the time?

Honestly it all just seems like capitalizing on an image to me but I could be wrong. I am not really going out of my way to listen to this stuff.

Not to beat dead horses but I feel like DG is a bit more genuine with the aggressive/angry rap thing. I would prefer more artists take after that than just name dropping old thrash, death and bm bands.
>>
>>74349069
That's a pretty biased answer. I hope I don't need to tell you that it's a usual practice to change the name when switching genres. First, it's less simply confusing. Second, there's a sound behind every bands' name. Yeah, things do change, but not by THAT much.
Imagine what would happen if everyone started jumping genres. Metallica went to play trip-hop. Immortal would dabble into field recordings. Slayer would go into glam folk. Wow, how convenient, how much sense it makes to everyone. I'm so sure the fans would welcome the change and appreciate the "tenouttaten" albums they put out.
>>
>>74349195
i mean out of all the guys he's had sing for his bands, he's not the worst, but he's no richie kotzen or russell allen
>>
>>74349045
not really
obviously people are overhyping those two albums saying it's the only good thing to come out of metal and shit (/mu/'s usual stupidity)
but to me they go together pretty well. Especially litourgiya, since atmoshit was always about oppresive atmospheres and darkness, wich you can really feel while going into an orthodox church. Z&A has a less changeable formula, wich is why he only put like 3 nigger bm songs on his albums, and the rest his filler. Still, litourgiya is a decently good bm album and Z&A is a catchy "metal" album
things like liturgy feel much more like quirky "cram as many stuff into an album without trying to make it sound good"
>>
>>74349369
>it's a usual practice to change the name when switching genres
a) I'd like to see some examples, especially examples of people agreeing with you, because it sounds like an ad hoc proposition
b) nevermind because it doesn't matter: A band can do whatever the fuck they want with their name, "confusion" be damned.
>Imagine what would happen if everyone started jumping genres
It happens all the time, but since the experiments are usually huge failures, they either go unnoticed and fade into obscurity or revert to what they know people want to hear.
>how convenient
a) again, why should a band, especially one that's far from a household name that's released about 30 albums that sound exactly the same because that's what people expect of them (AC-DC et al), care about your honestly worrisome inability to figure out that they're the same band playing in a different style?
Also I really like the way you ended your post with a slippery slope argument, so that I can slippery slip the fuck away from it.

I mean you gotta have an interest in metal to make metal music or namedrop things with >100 views on yt
obviously some rappers are capitalizing on the aestethic, but you can spot them miles away cause they wear slipknot/ghost bc/nirvana shirts
I like some of dg's stuff, but their hipster audience takes away all the edge they have, each time they try to be as offensive/ abrasive, the hipsters love it and say it's experimental, wich must suck for them, cause it looks like they put a lot of effort into offending people, yet no one gets offended
>I am not really going out of my way to listen to this stuff.

Sorry my dude. That was some pretty shameless cherry picking on my part.
>>
>>74349575
I'm sure you wouldn't be surprised to learn the lengths to which people go in order to seem "with it". It's pretty commonplace in the arts (any of them). Researching the keywords and the correct names to say in order to seem like they not only belong, but are leaders, of this or that scene. It's especially egregious in literature.

I suppose such a niche market as metal is somewhat less prone to this, but I'll be damned if it's exempt of it.
>>
>>74349449
>I'd like to see some examples
It happens every time. Ever heard the term "side project"? Yes, sometimes bands go from thrash to groove to whatever. People change, too. But at least they stay in their big genre—like metal and so on.
>A band can do whatever the fuck they want
A band can also abruptly finish the set after 15 minutes and shit onstage. Doesn't mean it's good, mr. anarchist.
>It happens all the time
But not on every fucking album, from metal to folk to different genres of electronic.
>wow it's your fault you can't figure out what we do
Excellent argument. We the listeners are obliged to make sense out of all the bullshit a band pours on us, and if we don't we're lazy and dumb. Bands should never ever care about fans and listeners.

A side project emerges when the main band still want to continue their sound but the members feel like exploring other sounds. It's not a tactic they use so that the band can change completely without "confuuuuuusing its faaaaaaans"
>Doesn't mean it's good, mr. anarchist.
You've said nothing here
>But not on every fucking album
Ulver is an extreme case, but you'll find bands changing style every three or maybe four albums. It's especially pervasive outside of metal. Industrial and electronic musicians in general are big into doing this.
>We the listeners are obliged to make sense out of all the bullshit a band pours on us, and if we don't we're lazy and dumb.
Yes! Are you taking the piss? Do you sometimes decide yo keep walking even though you want to make a right because the people behind you have been there too long and you're afraid you'll confuse them? What's this Nanny Band Universe you come from and how do I make sure I never get close to it?
>Bands should never ever care about fans and listeners.
Nice strawman. Anyway, bands should care more about doing what they feel like doing and being honest with themselves than catering to softheaded people who can't deal with the fact that five albums that sound nothing alike might be under the same bandname.

Glam metal is a derivative of '70s rock & roll out of control hedonism filtered through the apocalyptic nightmare zone of LA in the early '80s. Glam is merely an evolution of AC/DC, Aerosmith, Van Halen, and KISS taking place in a generation where heroin and speed were widely more available than the last. Glam metal is the ultimate revolution of self-destructive anti authoritarian nihilism. Thematically, it asserts no moral dilemma is taking place, merely by denying the existence of morality. All life is a vortex of sin and death inside the city of angels. No musical movement did more to destroy Christian middle-class youth than Motley Crue and glam did in the early 80s.

Fuck dude, it's more or less ok if a band changes genres once or twice, through logical evolution. But when they make zigzags with every album, they deserve to be memed on.
You're just defending Ulver, that's what you do. No one even said anything about the quality of their albums. I simply implied that they change the genres all the time and seemingly for no reason other than the heck of it. Lol bro, as soon as anyone asks you glam fags why glam is so shit, you hide behind "muh motley crue". No one means them, ok? They were good, no one says they weren't. Shout at the Devil is a pretty respected album. It's the rest of glam, who took stuff like Ratt and Dokken and made their music even more commercial, tame and saccharine. And of all bands, Crue quickly eschewed their glam image for something less androgynous.
And for fuck's sake, don't pretend glam was "rebellious" or "deep".

It's not projecting if it's actually true.

Your entire culture is and will always be the result of capitalist super hegemony constantly infiltrating every facet of media at your disposal.

Don't hide in a neurotic shell and quickly assert some kind of pseudo intelligence contrived at any given moment someone imposes the awful reality that you're terrified of grasping.

Glam musicians didn't give a fuck. They were having sex and ODing while others were stupidly pounding their fists against a wall trying to get out of the machine. No one is more worthy of Valhalla than one who stares into the abyss of this commercial orgy and says, "I know there is no way out, so I'm going to fuck a stripper and forget about it."

It still is projecting even if you accidentally hit the nail, which you didn't.
>Your entire culture is and will always be the result of capitalist super hegemony constantly infiltrating every facet of media at your disposal.
not an American, sorry

Get over yourself you self-important wanker. You're not an apocalyptic visionaire and I'm not an oblivious teen. You're talking about glam, not the soviet revolution, you pathetic fuck.
>Glam musicians didn't give a fuck.
We're talking about people who literally made a career on outrageous public image. That's as far as "not giving a fuck" as it gets.

just like every other big time musician/artist in history

News flash: The "machine" is made out of mindless hedonism. You're making Huxley's dead body cry cold tears of frustration.

That's as derrotist a thought as it gets. This is what a rebellious, anti-establishmentarian mind thinks? You're tripping all over your weakass rhetoric.

I'm finally listening to this. It's not as terrible or good as I expected. I wish it was using less generic sounding shoegaze tones. There is better screamo, shoegaze, and post-rock out there. I think really the only thing that makes it "metal" is the blast beats, and that's not even something that is definitively metal.

My reaction exactly. If you're a metal purist, you will consider that record a sacrilege and a blasphemy. But I just heard a pretty average record. Trying to merge something new, maybe. But, so did half of alternative. And it was simply not very memorable, just like Sunbather.

At least the band admits that the type of music they played existed ten years before they did anything, although they also apparently shat on another band for stealing their style, which contradicts what they say. But I imagine that many non-metalheads were introduced to this type of music through Deafheaven, so what can I say.

This is. Thus it gave clueless outsiders the idea that they now had a valid opinion about black metal in general

This reminded me of something somebody posted a while back about — at least online — Sunbather was the most reviewed black metal album, and many people were saying that black metal needed to be expanded and people shouldn't be so hostile to it, but they themselves listened to little or no black metal other than Deafheaven, who refuses to call themselves black metal.
