PIANO, THEORY, and SONGWRITING Thread
The Piano Professor is in answering all questions
is it really all practice?
1. building a trap song or any other genre with mpc
--you do not have to be a music professor
--most popular music is made by djs with studio tools that do not even play instruments
--its good to know an instrument though
--just know the process
--better to reuse knowing the popular styles
--im going with trap in this tutorial because its simple and popular
2. get fl studio and mpc, this is necessary, if you cant get one and still want to follow the tutorial theres a workaround
--mpd26 - 50$ guitar center, this is the best for a beginner it is so eays ot integrate into fl studio
--best thing for jamming
3. study the genre of choice(use a search engine)
--lay out beats as you read
--nows not the time to be a perfectionist
--leave room for other things to happen in your mix, this will become apparent when we get to the final step
--i find i get lost easily, really breaks up train of thought
--perfectionism comes in the final step
--try your best to flow between the tracks
--**Integrate another genre like reggaeon into the mix**
--do this as a final touch
FOR TRAP
--change tempo to 70-85
--add a back beat
--piano roll zooming
--copy and paste ctrl+v and ctrl+c
--add 16th, 32nd, 24th, 48th notes
--get creative
--let it work with the back beat
32nd, 16th, 24th, 16th, 32nd,
--interleave
try all possible combinations you can think of until it matches your palette
--make many blurbs
32nd, 16th, 48th, bass, drum fills
--make ones that skip
--dont go all out on this part, the final step is where you can show your creativity, right now we need a solid foundation
--you need space to so you can add effects
--this is how djs work
5. compartmentalize and slice
--chop up 1,2,3 and 4 beats
export as wav to reload into your mpc
6. create bass lines
--kick
--filter it in eq
--first use the given notes
-use mpc to get it right
7. start jamming
--using your mpd
--fitting it into 4s, 16s
8. strong chorus
9. laying out skeleton(16bar verse chorus bridge variations)
--use 16 bars, listeners get tired after a while
--calm verses
--get a feel for pacing, this will be another tutorial
10. fill out the rest
--think ABCD AABA AABB
11. adding final touches
--refine go back to step 3
--final variations based on 4 and 16 notes
--dial tweaks
--experiment with pitch bends
--filter tweaks
--loading off time signature into mpc
--like i said earlier, leave room in your mix for these things to happen
12. when your all done with a track, like completely done give yourself time to experiment
--look around fl studio
--dial tweaks etc
--look for any knob in fl studio, right click and look for link to controller
--loading tones
--time shifting
--panning inane sounds and samples
--later integrate into future songs
--learn to break the rules, steal from unpopular genres
--always find new music

>>74317102

For someone who already is a proficient piano player, how could they get started writing songs?
>>74317760
do some improv on a daily basis. find out what chord progressions are used in your favorite songs, then use those progressions to create new songs over top of.
follow your errors - mistakes are your best friend
What can a piano and guitar player do together? Both have only a year of experience.
>>74317829
start by playing some familiar tunes together. get the chords for the songs and start jamming together!
