Hes genuine and as others have pointed out his music be very moving since he himself puts a lot of emotion into it

he's one of the most sincere song writers out there. His songwriting shines through the nonexistent production value and terrible singing voice. The guy one best folk singer in Texas despite not knowing how to play the guitar. He's a genuine genius, who could have progressed into being one of the finest songwriters ever if it weren't for his debilitating mental illness.
