Didn't like the first song very much. Sounds like beginner melody, the hook in the main riff sounds very uninspired. The vocals are pretty good still.
Really liked the second song. A bit underdeveloped but as expected from a first record. Impressive playing (at least for a pleb like myself).
Third one, kind of a mix between the two.
Overall, pretty good. If the cover was meant to be like Darkthrone 2 tone style, picrelated is what you had to go for

There are good band, and I'll never get the comparisons to nu metal or grunge because unlike either of those genres Acid Bath has always been very riff driven.

You probably need that 90s industrial influenced stuff like Godflesh's post-Streetcleaner stuff, KMFDM, Strapping Young Lad, and Fear Factory.
Anaal Nathrakh sorta has this very slick electronic music inspired production but with raw, intense riffs.
There's also Whourkr who make grindy metal with breakcore inspired drums.

Sounds like stoner rock, right? Some genres of music are basically slowed down versions of other. Stoner = slowed down hard rock. Post punk is often just slow new wave in minor. And so on.
I once spent several evenings just toying around in Audacity. Decided to give it a go again, slowed down Slayer to sound like sludge

Randy Rhoads in one improvised solo could make more interesting stuff than in 1 Yngwie album. See Suicide Solution solo from Randy Rhoads Tribute, for example.

Yeah, that's what I mean. I actually like a lot of other neoclassical/speed metal more than what Malmsteen does. Maybe he's absolute best on technical level, and I haven't heard all of his work of course. But literally all of his songs that I've heard left me yawning.
I mean, it's ok if he showcases his talents. But you'd think with such a knowledge of guitar and classical music, he would know how to write a good song, right? But it's the opposite of that.

Misfits are at least not complete MTV trash of the alternative era.
What I never get is how people stay listening to the same entry-level bands for years. I assumed most people move on. E.g., if you enjoy Tool, you'll probably eventually realize that there are simply greener pastures that music has to offer.
Then again, some people listen to Grateful Dead for years.

Well I'd assume they know a thing or two about musical theory, have listened to more than 1 classical piece, etc. etc. I mean, people who can barely play are writing better songs. Or at least less boring songs.
And also, every time I hear his music, it's like the guitar is kinda in the background. I just can't concentrate on it. Honestly I often can't even tell if it's ebin guitar master playing it or just some invited Latin American kid who is paid $5.99 per session.

Definitely more Ukrainian folk influences. Hell, they even have some Tuvan throat singing on a few tracks.

There's not enough of a difference between what's often called experimental or avant garde metal in the genre for them to be separated from prog though.

Why would I put Power Metal in there? Power metal, while initially being somewhat close to the Prog Metal scene, developed its own completely different sound. That's the dumbest shit on the planet.

I know that breakdowncore was a pretty annoying trend. The problem i've had with the numale shit is you basically tell kids that playing braindead breakdowns for a whole measure is all it takes and the creativity that could have came out is gone. That said, bands like parkway drive and converge are pretty great exceptions to the rule.
