How old were you when you realized that The Magical Mystery Tour was the best Beatles album?

>b-but it's and EP!

It doesn't change the fact how great this album is. Past Master II is a compilation album but still better than Let It Be, for example.

Fix'd. I'm sorry I'm little bit stoned.

>>
Just bought the movie, have never listened to the album, been waiting to watch it on shrooms
>>
>>74282249
It was my first lsd experience, the carpet started clawing at me during strawberry field, and there was a constant screeching noise and the song was really loud. Only lasted a couple minutes though.
>>
>>74284708
The movie is weird. VERY heavy on "british humour" so dont expect much if youre american
>>
>>74282856
This
>>
It has the best songs next to Revolver but it manages to be even less cohesive than the White Album. Pretty underrated, though.
>>
>>74282249
It's literally just random tracks thrown together.
>>
I used to be a Revolver / Rubber Soul kinda guy.
When I realized I didnt even like a third of the song on both albums I became enlightened.

MMT really is their best
>>
>>74284879
This. MMT is one of the only beatles LP i own, that also isnt crazy expensive
>>
>>74284937
I own a couple of them, but not MMT ironically

imo their best songs are on the White Album / Rubber Soul, but these albums arent really cohesive and have a lot of sub par songs

they arent good from start to finish like MMT is
>>
>>74282365
this
>>
>>74284992
>have a lot of sub par songs
There are no sub par songs.

Just sub par music appreciation
>they arent good from start to finish like MMT is
>what is Flying
>>
>>74285070
>Just sub par music appreciation
meh it's all subjective anyway

For example, I cant fucking stand Drive my car, Word, Doctor Robert & Taxman (to name a few)

Probably cause I listened to them a thousand time when I was a wee lad. Now I just cant not skip those songs

>Flying
I actually like that song a lot desu

>>
>>74285192
No it's fine. But it is what it is-- a filler instrumental for a trippy scene from the movie. That's all. To say that the White Album and Rubber Soul has sub-par songs but not MMT is just idiocy

The movie is pretty bad, funny how with The Beatles the best movies have the worst soundtrack releases while the worst movies have the better music. I think the only consistent one in both aspects is A Hard Day's Night.

But Help! is a great album you fucktard
>>
>>74285171

Overheard them to the point where I never want to hear them again

flying is a great instrumental that helps set the tone for the most psychedelic song on the album

I love the rest of the album, eleanor rigby is my favorite song by them. doctor robert isn't bad but it's not exactly great. rest is stellar. mystery tour is all stellar tho.
>>
>>74286116

No it doesn't precede I Am The Walrus or Strawberry Fields
>>74286150

That's OK. You need a comedown song that's more of a groove to balance it out.
>>

blue jay way and it's filter on the vocals and the reversed bits of drumming is way more psychedelic than those two.

I think I was about 22. Other than the title track and I guess Flying (though I like that one) its a ridiculously solid set of tracks for almost the entire album through. Other Beatles albums have songs I like better but Magical Mystery Tour is just so consistently good from beginning to end.

The title track is brilliant, the end really gets that impending horror aspect of a really strong acid trip, when you have to ride it out and come out of the other side. It was a good idea but now you're not so sure.

The quality of the meaning is poor.
>>
PLEAAASE DON'T BE LOOONG
>>
>>74290569
I did, and there are still no valid points about why it's 'contrived'... it's a psych rock album, and blue jay way is an original take on the 'clichés'. You can dig into almost any genre and pick out common qualities, it comes down to whether or not you like those qualities.

The quality of the meaning is poor... I won't ask you to elaborate on that because I feel like that's a matter of subjectivity as well.
>>
>>74282249
i can not chose what there best albums is abbey road would be perfect if it did not have songs like Maxwell's Silver Hammer Octopus's garden and here comes the sun (these songs feel really out of place)
>>
>>74282249
At last /mu/ has finally taken the MMT pill
>>
>>74290686
>and blue jay way is an original take on the 'clichés'
How so?
>I won't ask you to elaborate on that because I feel like that's a matter of subjectivity as well.
Do you even know what the song is about?
>>
>>74290890
The song is about George Harrison waiting for Taylor's in LA after a flight from London, particularly in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood near the Sunset Strip... as for the originality, the clear experimentation with sounds on the track create a fantastically evocative ambience.

All the studio techniques used on the song contribute in different aspects to the psychedelic aura and the vocals are almost surreal.

Even with all the immensely creative artists experimenting at the time, Blue Jay Way is a captivating example of psych rock

holy shit you are pretentious, does it have to have some deeply emotional and moving backstory to be enjoyable? jesus christ

>the techniques are all cliched though
okay... but it's experimentation nonetheless and the product is pop drenched in incredible atmosphere.

>>74291506
>it's just played through a Leslie speaker. So?

I'm not even saying it was incredibly technically complex, the effect just perfectly compliments the psychedelia of the track.
>>
On a semi-related note does anyone else think the White Album is somewhat overrated? Too much McCartney wings shit on the 2nd side
>>
>>74292420
>enjoyable
Nice goalpost shifting
>experimentation
It's not an experiment if they knew the outcome (intentionally dressing a poor composition into psychedelic clothes).
>the effect just perfectly compliments the psychedelia of the track.
Cliches might trick you into believing that.

I was five when I was introduced to MMT and it remains one of my favorite Beatles album to this day.

Also I was born, raised, and currently live in the U.S. so it was packaged as an album, not an e.p. like in Great Britain.

Also the version of Baby You're A Rich Man that appears on the GERMAN version of the album is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT version than on any other version of MMT. Check it out if you can find it.

>goalpost shifting
>the goal of music isn't for the listening experience to be enjoyable

experimentation in music doesn't necessarily mean they'll always know how the product will turn out...

>cliches might trick you into believing that

so I've been tricked into believing a song is well crafted and a great experience? that's a complete non argument
>>
>>74294386
>>the goal of music isn't for the listening experience to be enjoyable
More goalpost shifting! You are doing great!

>experimentation in music doesn't necessarily mean they'll always know how the product will turn out...
I don't think you understand what experimental music is
>so I've been tricked into believing a song is well crafted
That is correct
>and a great experience?
Well, a fool's born every minute.
>>
>>74294645
So what is the goal then? You've still given no proof of lack of originality in Blue Jay Way's content.

experimentalism in music isn't necessarily entirely based on chance

There is no trickery at work here, simply preferences.
