The average person possesses no critical thinking skill, which is why bad music becomes popular. In a lot of cases, such as pop, people's low IQ also lends to them wanting simple music with bo substance.
Led Zeppelin is alright, but over appreciated due to the cultural phenomenon that was a lack of anything like that at the time.

Zeppelin's albums are not great, but their compilations are excellent.

Telling you guys, listen to their live album How the West was Won. Their instruments were tuned to perfection, the post-production cleans it up well and it was before Page got strung out on heroin, meaning he makes his guitar shriek. Give it a listen if you're even just a casual fan of Zep, you won't be disappointed.
