trash. Looked him up and the first song I found was basically a stripped down pop chord progression on piano with maybe 4 chords max. Part of why singer-songwriters are so boring now is they don't fucking use anything but the most basic chords and sound basic themselves. It's why a person like Archy Marshall is so notable. That's a completely different thing. The retro fetishism that Tame Impala and others do, deliberately trying to not only write but mix and master sons so they sound "old". The biggest bands may have gave you a couple of throwbacks but their whole aesthetic and catalogs were not based on being "retro" except for shit like Stray Cats.
