Why don't you like country music? Especially Americans.

Probably because the only Country they are exposed to is the garbage that gets played on the radio.

I find Sixteen Horsepower boring as fuck yet they always get posted over the much superior Denver Sound outfit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-McP_PCkNQI

In short, I hate country for the same reason people who like country music like country music: identity politics. The idea of listening to Nashville pity-party songs about how great it is to get stone drunk because no one understands that I'm a REAL 'murican and America's best days are long gone makes me want to puke.
I think classic country is pretty okay and whenever a rock musician randomly drifts into a country tune it's usually great but the whole cowboy consumer culture makes me cringe harder than mall goths. I think part of it is that country music subculture largely defines itself in terms of what country isn't so it comes of as music for people who hate music.

You've been listening to the wrong country.
>>74227332
Do country goths make you cringe too?

I'm european and I love country music. What do you make of that? The whole "real murica" thing you mentioned doesn't even enter my mind when listening to country. It's simply good well-written tunes.

This is so obviously inferior to 16HP it's almost funny.

Munly from Cessna's band is great though.

But country and its derivatives are pretty much my favorite genres.

That's my favourite Denver collaboration probably, with her even.

plebs, all of you

That's what I was gonna post, actually.
It baffles me that he's not better known than that.

I think a lot of people who know of him consider him a good writer but a poor a performer.
I strongly disagree though. Willie & Merle's version of Pancho and Lefty is garbage tier. That song sounds best with just Townes and an acoustic guitar. The one on Live At The Old Quarter is the definitive version for me.
TO THE TOWN OF AGUA FRIA ROAD A STRANGER ONE FINE DAY
seems like Lucinda Williams is really underrated on this board. the sense of longing in her songs is unmatched.

I just take it as a given that people are into Townes desu, don't even bother asking.
Because what most people associate with the term "country music" now is shallow pop music with twangy guitars and vocals and terrible lyrics about stereotypes. It's all pandering to a specific image and there's very little artistic merit involved, just bland music and songs about trucks, jeans, beer, and back roads. And the worst part is that its fans act like it's not the vacuous pop music that it is.
I love older country and alt. country, though. Part of the reason I have a raging hate boner for pop county is that I see it as defacing a genre I like.
