At what age did you realize "exploring" music was stupid and sticking to what you know made more sense?

recently.

I think a combination of the two is best. Being too droney is just as bad as being a contrarian
When I started actively listening to music.

stick close to what you know but slowly edge yourself out, actually
no one cares stop being insecure and listen to what you want

Neither makes more sense than the other
You don't need to make posts to validate your opinions

I explore music in ever-enlarging concentric circles actually
I listen to music from African countries, rate them three-stars on RYM and then delete them.
African music is really interesting and the distance it has from western music really helps it stay away from the tired cliches of rock music. There are hundreds of years of culture going into trad music, while rock is mainly kids imitating 50 years of marketing.
I am better than all of you.
