Probably Gould since he was so autistically attached to the piano
Gould's kinda goofy, that's sort of why he became so famous. Not to say he wasn't a piano virtuoso - he was - but Rachmaninoff is powerful, classically, in a way Gould wasn't, and Gould had a "take" on the things he played that Rachmaninoff didn't.
Gould's autism is a perfect match for Bach's own brand of autism (particularly in regard to Die Kunst). Because of that, it's silly to accuse Gould's renditions of being overly "technical" or "sterile". No idea why anyone would waste time on Rachmaninoff when there are thousands of better pianists.

is this a common critique? I always sort of felt like Gould's big thing when playing Bach was his voicing of the different parts, as if it was soprano/alto/tenor/bass, but he did so in piano pieces.
Rach was a pretty baller Chopin interpreter and probably better at the stuff Gould hated.
