What does it actually mean to be a "pop-star"? Because that's what she's talking about here. The disconnect between what normal people like you/me/Grimes think of when that comes to mind and all the entrenched ideas the music industry/music journalism world have about what that means in terms of how musicians operate. Eg - working completely solo while also being a pop-star. Which many people in the music world seem to is outre, despite the fact that a number of the biggest legends in pop music history (e.g. Prince) where famous for doing exactly that.

The ancient Romans invaded Greece, destroyed it's city-states as governing bodies, adopted its citizens as culturally enlightened slaves, and sucked Greek culture dry, to the point where nearly every aspect of Roman culture was just a blatant ripoff of something from the Greeks (eg. including all of their gods.) And guess what? The Roman Empire that arose out of that massive case of cultural appropriation was the single-most powerful civilization the world has ever.

FKA Twigs is all effects and no substance. Grimes is an electronic musician so it's 100% understandable why she added many effects. That's the aesthetic of her music. For her, the voice is yet another instrument. At least she didn't use the vocoder like many other electronic such as Daft Punk and Kraftwerk.
