I will concede that Scar Sighted was surprisingly good for Leviathan, Litourgiya was one of the strongest debuts I've ever heard, and The Dreaming I is a decent album. But by no means was 2015 the best or even above average for metal.

I can't think of many from 2016 specifically, but there are a bunch of sick ass bands putting out awesome shit in the last 2-3 years.

Generation of Vipers are probably my favourite overall, Ahab put out a great album in 2015 that's a bit more progressive than call of the wretched sea but not in an in your face way. Sunn O))) - Kannon was decent, there's a great Italian band called the secret, Atriarch, Northern Widows, Bell Witch -Longing is even better than 4 phantoms imo. French, heavy, heavy drone from Nadja, not sure what they've done in the past few years but their album Touched from 2007 is the most crushingly heavy things I've ever heard.

I only have a small handful stuff that I regularly bump desu, trying to constantly listen to music is exhausting. Honestly you should check out the nu-male chart, it's a meme yeah but it's got some fucking fantastic albums in there as well.

Been a pretty slow year so far. Was expecting some good things from the latest Artificial Brain and Dodecahedron, but they are kinda inconsistent. My two stand outs so far have been the latest Ruins Of Beverast album and Black Magick SS' Kaleidoscope Dreams. Really hoping for new Pyrrhon and Gigan to save the year. I am sure there's probably actually good stuff that's lesser known, but I honestly haven't been listening to or paying attention to enough metal this year to really know.

scar sighted and exercises in futility are legitimately fantastic albums. but new bermuda and four phantoms are garbage and while the arc work is pretty neat it's definitely not metal.

Recommending Uskumgallu/Triumvir Foul, Death Fortress, Cornigr, Lascowiec, Cendres - Ungeziefer. Dodsengel - Interequinox was pretty good.

The Dreaming I is better than any Nightbringer album.

mainly I just wish Negative Plane would come out with a new one.
