extremely cathartic screamo with melodic hardcore and metalcore influences. this band was originally called New Ethic until one of their guitarists died in an accident. the whole EP deals with moving on after relationships end abruptly and violently.

Included is a scan of the lyric booklet, that along with the context of the band itself is fucking heartbreaking.

This one fucking rips. You may know the singer Connie from their high school midwest emo / screamo hybrid band Flowers Taped To Pens and her decidedly more skramz band Rene Descartes. this one is much less traditional. A sorta combo of emoviolence, tempo shifting mathcore, and early 2000s sass post-hardcore, this one wears it's influences on its sleeve. They also put out a full EP this year but I haven't gotten around to listening to it.

well, I can't speak for that but

all your 70s are British (+ Ramones.) Television, Richard Hell, NY Dolls, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, Dictators were all punk. These were the bands that the english kids were checking, some of which toured over there and they saw the vibe firsthand

Germs, FEAR, Misfits (!) all need to be on there, I'd have to check if their first releases were late 70s or early 80s though.

I'd personally put the Replacements and Angry Samoans in there. I'm also partial to the Dead Milkmen, but not sure they're "essential." I'd make a case for the Violent Femmes s/t belonging to essential post punk. Not really feeling the inclusion of ATDI, but post-hardcore isn't really my thing.
