In any case, it's best to let go of this shit, listen to to new music, challenge yourself. There is no question that there is more new, great music is being made every day. Umbrella Academy was really just his practice run for one of his current titles, Doom Patrol, since he couldn't write for DC while he was still fulltime with his band.

My first Metal show was Iron Maiden. I have seen them 5 times. Seen Black Sabbath with both Ozzy and Dio respectively and both Solo too. But I'm not strictly a metal head l like everything. I haven't read the thread, so I assume it's been said over and over again, but here goes

Their debut album, bullets, was great. It was gritty, it was fun. It was a good blend of post-hardcore, emo, and pop. I would argue it was one of the best albums of its genre and era.

3 cheers, their second album, was far more polished, but still fun.

The Black Parade was when they seriously started to appeal to middle schoolers. Their songs had a much more vapid tone to them, and you could tell they were trying to sound more "epic," killing their charm. It went from down to earth lyrics to trying to tell a shitty story about "the damned" and trying to create a sense of "we're in this together, us social rejects." This cliche sentiment is most prominent on their most popular song, Welcome to the Black Parade.

Then their last two albums came out, danger days, which was very glam rock/hair metal inspired, and still tried to tell their shitty "epic" stories, and Conventional Weapons, which as far as I remember, was actually surprisingly solid, and seemed to be going back to their early work.

They attracted a lot of faux emo middle schoolers because they were edgy, and had vapid lyrics in their later work. It also helps that Gerard Way is a FUCKING QT3.14. So their fanbase is pretty insufferable, which is a shame, because it makes it hard for most people to take their early work seriously.

My father is almost 50 and was/still is a huge fan of these guys and I don't understand it. I even became a fan of them for a brief time when I was 12-13 (male) because of him.

I can't say his opinion on GW's solo album, but I know he's also big into Linkin Park (RIP), Rise Against, 30 Seconds to Mars and The Offspring-post Americana. He's basically a teenage girl that's trying too hard.
