I'm English and I fucking HATE when people do the common English twang accent thing in singing.
The only band I've ever listened to that gets away with it are Oasis... I guess Blur and Pulp can get away with it too but we're talking classic British Brit-pop only really.

I hate when it's forced I should say.
These bands are genuinely as common as fuck and this is how they actually sound.
I'm talking about people like Lily Allen, who aren't common as fuck and are privately educated but they put on the accent for effect.

I bemoan the death of this as well. Seems like too many artists that spring from these shores in this day and age sing in the same sort of trans-atlantic vocal style which I can't help but think is a put-on with the American market in mind. I wish I could describe it better, but it's just so bland that I can't. It's a musical fetish of mine to hear a singer with an unbridled accent of any stripe or colouring.
