the lyrics in the lead up to the drop and in the second verse are unforgivable. the guy can't sing. i hate most of the synth tones.

Except I can. The chorus is boring and repetitive, nothing more than a slightly rehashed version of the lyrical melody. And, of course, it sounds almost identical to a lot of their other songs, a common complaint but one that holds up. Also the lyrics are pretty shallow, and majority can pretty much be taken at face value.
It's not a terrible song, but it's not good.
