Does computer software count as an instrument? My friend started with FL studio and then started dabbling in guitar. A capella music is just voice. You can layer your voice puke instruments, sort of like reggie watts. He uses a loop pedal but you could just multitrack it. Choral music doesn't involve any instruments.

When you make music on a computer you're essentially always playing a piano no matter what the instrument is.

Also rappers just sample beats/sounds from other songs and talk over it.

I usually input everything manually when I make computer music. If you mean the piano roll layout, trackers don't have that.

Depends if you count software as instruments. When it comes to composing music on a computer, it's more theory than anything else, since you don't actually have to play anything. At the very least, you'll have to know what notes exist on a piano.


And yes you should learn music theory.
