Thinking about buying a portable cassette player, any recommendations?? Anything I should watch out for?

Why not?

Don't spend a lot of money. In fact, don't spend any. I have about half a dozen old walkmen laying around in various colors from various years........you should be able to find one for free that works reasonably well.

why would you want this

dumb death grips ableton digital underage pls go
FFS buy a cassette deck not a portable cassette player
Cassette decks actually sound good and you can modify the sound all you want, walkmans sound like crap

well i mean yeah do if you want
just the OP pic was DAT and he said cassette player
just checking
but DAT is better sound and if you can get a player with a decent DAC then even better
DAT tapes do fuck up easily though and become unplayable, and machines go out of alignment making everything glitch, whereas compact cassettes are more robust but sound less like the original signal

I hate DG
Cassettes are a waste of money for anything beyond aesthetic purposes. They aren't like vinyl where the sound quality is better, the sound quality generally ranges from unnoticeable to terrible. Sure if you're gonna buy some lo fi stuff like Daniel Johnston then I guess it makes sense for authenticity purposes, but other than that you're just throwing money down a hole.

Recording on tape is necessary for some types of music that aren't generic nu male rock and hip hop

>using nu male unironically
have fun blowing your money on shit you aren't gonna care about in a year once the trend dies
