I'd like to try getting into Ween. I have never heard any of their songs before. Where do I start?

You definitely need to listen to the Mollusk, and then Quebec. The order of those two is debateable but they need to be the first two. After that I listened to Pure Guava and then White Pepper but what I should have done was listen to Chocolate and Cheese after those first two. White Pepper isn't the best representation of the rest of their music and Pure Guava was too brown to be my third album, and Chocolate and Cheese would have prepared me for that because it's a nice transition and a god damn good album.
Anyway, after you listen to Chocolate and Cheese you should listen to White Pepper, then Pure Guava and GodWeenSatan and then The Pod. After that you can look up their older albums if you want to hear more of that kind of music, as well as the fucking bazillions of demos and unreleased tracks they have just lying around. Speaking of which, Shinola vol 1 is a great collection of great tracks, but it makes the most sense in the context of having already heard all their albums.
Listen to Twelve Golden Country Greats at your own discretion, it's different but it's still one of their best albums.
Don't bother with La Cucaracha except out of morbid curiosity, the only good tracks on it are My Own Bare Hands and Your Party.
Sorry for sperging out at you anon but I really fucking love Ween.

The Mollusk is the only noteworthy album they've made. Otherwise just listen to Frank Zappa.

>I forgot the best track on 12 Golden Country Greats
Above all other songs on that album you need to hear Mister Richard Smoker, had me in tears the first time I heard it

Literally took the words out of my mouth.
Seconded for Mollusk and Quebec as the first listens, as they are the most iconic Ween albums.

Something you'll grow to love about Ween is the extremely eclectic sounds and diverse genres they perform on each album, all them executed well. Just listen to the contrast between "It's Gonna be a Long Night" and "Hey there Fancypants"

Actually what surprises me more than their ability to span numerous genres is how they manage to still have their own easily identifiable sound not matter which genre they choose. You can always tell it's Ween, and no matter what it is it never feels out of place. Well, with the exception of La Cucaracha, anyway.

Agreed, no matter what they play its somehow lighthearted and sarcastic and just "Weenish"
