i like to listen to Loveless when i feel this way. i wasn't into shoegaze before i started feeling this way often, but it gives me a comforting feeling. the haze of the production mixed with the 7th and 9th chords gives me a soothing feeling. it also satisfies my desire for nostalgia. i think this is why, for the last 5 years indie has been dominated by artists who have a dream pop influenced sound. i think this is also why lofi hip hop and more ethereal trap like xo tour life is popular. people tried partying away this feeling of emptiness at the start of the decade, and it didn't work.
