What do you do when you can't focus on what kind of music you want to make?
Why confine yourself to one genre?

I think trying to "pick" a genre of music then consciously try to make it is a creative dead end. I speak from experience.
my advice is just to sit at your instrument(s) of choice and just start jamming away. eventually something will come to you
after you have some "seed kernel" of music, you can grow the rest of the song then consciously make design choices that suit a particular style, but you gotta start somewhere.
if you read about famous songwriters of any genre, folk, rock, pop, electronic, indie, heavy metal, classical... it usually starts out just sitting at a piano/guitar/humming a tune.
its not like they have the whole idea fleshed out in their head before even touching an instrument.

I don't, there's just so many things I want to do I don't know where to start
