Gas POP is great. This is blah and not really ambient by what most consider ambient. Aphex SAW II is better, though scattershot which tracks are real ambient. Chihei Hatakeyama has a lot of smooth quality-ambient. Most similar thing to Gas Pop I have found is called Sadye, by Bengalfuel. Really good start to finish. Eno's best - imo - is Another Green World, not ambient though. Honestly there's better ambient by Cliff Martinez from Drive than Airports, but for that time the term ambient must have meant something else. Either way, kinda meh album if you ask me.

Anyways, the first track is god tier ambient imho. Mediocre, maybe, but it works on me.

Also, ambient music has changed quite a lot. It's hard to compare Eno, Gas, Hammock and Grouper as ambient artists, for example

Ambient 1 is cheesy, but I still love it. Side B is the best.

It's fantastic though, there's not enough acoustic ambient. Paulstretching in a DAW is too easy and Brian Eno wrote compositions that cleverly used live instruments+tape.

My favorite ambient stuff is by Brian Grainger, who goes by both his Milieu and Coppice Halifax monikers.

His catalog is *huge*, so it's a bit intimidating, but I could recommend him more.

it's good stuff, i like all eno. but frankly i don't care how easy or hard music is made, i like what it sounds like when i listen to it. there's plenty more ambient i'd listen to before this for mood

I like how Ambient 1 sounds.
I think the contrast between piano/guitar and the tape sounds is really pleasant and peaceful.

Discreet Music is still his best ambient track and one of my all time faves.

On Land is his best overall ambient album.
