>play a bunch of dom9, halfdim7 and hendrix chords in a syncopated pattern
>add in a bunch of dead notes and semitone slides
>suddenly a funk guitarist
Is there an easier genre to emulate? Besides vaporwave.

serious question, wtf is a dom9 chord?
also no, the notes may be easy but getting the muting sounding clean requires a very strong, precise and developed fingers/thumb.
thats why every beginner strums open chords to oasis and beatles songs

to play funk properly, you really have to spend a lot of time working on time, playing with a metronome and playing in the pocket. if you listen to really good funk guitarists you can literally hear how groovy they are, it ooses out of them.

Dom9 is a dominant chord with a 9th (i.e. the note a whole step above tonic) added.

Maybe the notes are simple but the greater challenge is the rhythm. Also the guitar style you're talking about is a rhythm guitar role--it's strictly for support, not to be showy or virtuoso. Also you posted a funk bassist you ass.
