Tool would be fantastic if they weren't so up their own arses about their music. They have some really cool songs on Aenima, but it's ruined by the filler tracks and the mystic bollocks that dragged Lateralus and 10,000 days down further. They could've been a more mathy Jesus Lizard but they decided public masturbation was more enjoyable

They WEREN'T though. Undertow and Opiate has none of that. Aenima touches on it with two songs. Lateralus pisses me off for the same reason and the best song on it is Triad because there are no lyrics.

Then they eased off and Maynard group up.

Aenima is still a great fucking record though.

oh hell yeah, if you got rid of the filler tracks Aenima would be an easy 9/10, they nailed their sound completely on that release. Schism and The Grudge are also incredible tracks.

I've really grown to dislike Undertow over the years. I used to like it since I spent a while as a Tool fanboy, but listening to it now it's so flat and dull, both in songwriting and in production. They get their shit together for Aenima thankfully
