So, what's /mu/'s opinion on Jacob Collier? I just found out about this guy and his negative harmony stuff.
Cute
Really interesting from a theoretical standpoint but I feel he makes his music totally prescriptively and it sounds absolutely soulless and without any personality.

Also his fucking vocoder sounds like robots farting.

this is all I've heard by him and I like it. the whole tuning shifting thing is awesome, but I think my ears are too shit for me to catch it

>spend one million hours in ableton
>result is simple barbershop shit
Typical "look at me" Berklee twat
Style over substance
really interesting in terms of music theory
clearly talented
not sure if i'd ever listen to his songs more than once though
Another "genius" theorist who's incapable of actually making good music

If this is the best a Berklee graduate can do, I'm not interested to say the least.

Cute white boy breathy, "melancholic" songs for deep 14 year old girls. Yeah, at least some Berklee graduates like Vinnie Colaiuta, Al Di Meola, John Scofield, Joe Zawinul, Bill Frisell, John Abercrombie and Keith Jarrett did something worthwile with their knowledge.
His songs come off a little as wankery.
I really like his covers, and his original music is quite good as well. This is probably my favorite track of his:
