ITT: Forgotten geniuses
Pic related: Rowland S Howard of The Birthday Party (Nick Cave's post-punk band). Brilliant solo material that was overshadowed by Cave's.

I would take Roland S Howard's two solo albums over almost any of Cave's albums. Cave is way too over rated. Of course he's made masterpieces... But I'm so fucking sick of that strain of theatrical rock, it's too much, too gluttonous, too off-putting. Love live RSH.

Agreed. If you listen to Howard's solo stuff it becomes crystal clear right away that he was the real genius of The Birthday Party. Not knocking on Cave but Howard was miles ahead. It's a shame he went so soon.
Sorry if this list is a bit too guitar-minded, be these are some of my heroes and their solo career

Just fuck off. I hate all of you nick cave fans.
The obsession you all have with somebody so mediocre. The predictability as you all worship blixa too. And the way you think you know more than others just comes out in the wording of everything you guys say. E.g "(nick caves post punk band)" as if people don't already know that seen as you people won't shut the fuck up about it

>REEEEEEEEEE STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE
Fuck off, retard.

Roy Wood desu
His combined work with The Move, ELO, Wizzard and as a solo artist is so good, and yet so rarely gets a mention
Remember children, a Roy Wood is for life, not just for Christmas

Thank you for these. Obviously agree with you on Fred Frith and Arto Lindsay. Dinucci and Seabrook are new to me.

idk how you could possibly say frith or lindsay are forgotten. theyre super overhyped
Fuckin' A.
He's about two degrees of separation from everyone in post-punk and shows up in as many weird places as Kid Congo Powers. I love guitarists who aren't virtuosos but have earnest and original ideas. I suppose Robert Frappe is the pinnacle of this kind of guitar playing but Rowland is so much more heartfelt

He is one of my favourite song writers ever and I am quite glad to see him spoken about here. I don't think he is forgotten in Australia tho, he is still regarded as one of our best songwriters plus he had a street named after him not long after he died
>>73938966
how is he forgotten lmao

Back when I was a kid, I tried to download some Wizzard songs other than I Wish It Could Be Christmas, And I stumbled upon this god-forsaken band

Seriously? Howard had a shitty fucking monotone voice and his songs just drone on and on. His work in the Birthday Party was good but he doesn't hold up as a solo artist.
I get that it's cool to go "yeah, the Bad Seeds are too popular and overrated, Howard is the REAL genius" but at least do it with someone more talented.
Brainiac (and Enon, actually)
