You have to put yourself back in the pre-Kid A era, where literally every single Radiohead song was fawned over and hailed as genius. When we eventually ran out of songs to fawn over, we looked to the songs that Radiohead scrapped. Some were good (Man o War, Big Ideas), some were not (I Promise, Lift). regardless, there was a desire to call them genius and "lost gems" whether they actually were or not)
