Love You was a good album but it didn't exactly get a lot of attention or sales--the "Hey guys, Brian's back!" hoopla had faded by this time and also in 1977, everyone was busy jerking off to punk rock, nobody cared about the Beach Boys.

That album is the embodiment of a completely broken down man trying to pull himself up or put on a facade like he's okay. That's exactly what it sounds like and essentially what it was. There's no other Beach Boys record in their catalogue that quite sounds like that and that's why I hold it in very high regards relative to the rest of their work. Doesn't top Pet Sounds or SMiLE for me but it's right up there, it's definitely a special album to me

Sunflower's a tier below Surf's Up just because of the cheesy blues crap. If they removed Student Demonstration Time and added 4th of July like originally intended, it'd be flawless.
