Have you listened to Pere Ubu's The Modern Dance? It's kinda punky but it's also got some weird noisy shit going on in most of the songs to some extent.
Also, Sun Ra's Atlantis. Avant-garde spacey jazz that's pretty chill for the most part (but also pretty engaging and funky) and then the last track just fucking throws a fuckton of noisy clavinet at you mixed in with this really dark atmosphere that goes on for over twenty minutes. An absolute epic.
Sun Ra also has the Magic City which is more grandiose, but imo not as good overall.

Peter Brotzmann is who you're thinking of bud. He's pretty cool and did lots of whack shit. Jazz got way psycho and crazy in the 70s when free jazz got real radical—check out the Art Ensemble of Chicago (also anything by their sax player Roscoe Mitchell)

You'd dig anything from Manfred Schoof, Sunny Murray, Sam Rivers, TRITON, and Lester Bowie - Rope a Dope

Because this board is for teenagers who listen to teenager music and only want to shit on genres, argue about flavor of the month indie and hip hop, and insult each other ceaselessly

Anyway, if you want more and have an account, I can link you my discogs and you can friend me and check my wantlist//collection for more goodies

>>73900452
there's so much i don't know. do you just research jazz history or do you find it on accident. i tend to find most of my music through influences of the artists i like

I work at a record store that sees a lot of jazz LPs come thru. I read up on who I like, read liner notes for more, etc. here's something to look for: the Wildflower comps. Those are all live recordings from the NYC free jazz scene at Sam Rivers' loft—amazing, rare jams. Wildflowers 5 is my personal favorite.

Discogs is great for music diving too because you can just easily go under "Explore" and select Style: Noise, LP, and a specific year like 1997 to find out everything that was put out that year that could fit into the sound that was on vinyl.

My discogs profile is: https://www.discogs.com/user/Lcf64
