What's some good music in the french, german, or italian languages that isn't hundreds of years old?
Fabrizio de Andre
French: most of the Chanson bigwigs. Brel, Ferre, Fontaine, Tekielski etc. Francoise Hardy as well, but mostly her post-Yeye material.
non-Classical German music - as in Pop Music with a distinct German identity - is pretty horrid.
Italy has an extensive prog/semi-spacious jazz scene if you're into that.
