Christ Illusion is an awesome album, how come it's so underrated?

It's a forgettable album. It isn't the worst Slayer album, but it doesn't do anything very well. I actually liked World Painted Blood better because at least it took some chances.

Reign in Blood, Seasons in the Abyss, South of Heaven, God Hates us All, and Divine Intervention all have their own vibe and are very different albums.

Besides Jihad I can't remember a single song off Christ Illusion.

Slayer also made the same mistake with Repentless - it isn't bad but it is just an average metal album. As much as Diabolis in Musica is hated, it was at least memorable.

It's easy once you stop grading the older albums on a curve because they're older. Seasons tried to combine the sounds of the previous two albums, and it sounds exactly like that: a bargain bin imitation of a sound that wasn't completely good in the first place.

I didn't think it was good at first either but I listened to it more and now I like every song on it. I also like Divine Intervention a lot too, I don't get why people don't like it it's like Reign in Blood 2.0
I like God Hates Us All as well but I can understand why people dislike that because some of the lyrics are kind of try hard and edgy.

I've been into Slayer since the mid 90's (When I picked up Reign in Blood in 97 when I was 13) and no matter how many times I tried to listen to Christ Illusion, nothing ever really stood out.

Divine Intervention is an amazing album, not sure why it's such a wildcard among metal fans. God Hates Us All did have some edge "Keep a bible in a pool of blood...ugh...." but it's a really cohesive album that has some amazing tracks on it.
