Half the time when people say "hurr durr [artist] is irrelevant" it's just glorified solipsism in that they're pretty much saying "I stopped listening to them and my peers did as well so that means everyone else has". I'm not saying this is ALWAYS the case, but it's a recurring mentality for most entertainment mediums. Shit could be as popular as ever and you'd still have some goons somewhere asking that question.
