I want to give country music a fair shot. Where exactly should I start with the genre? I'm not really interested in the modern musicians but more the early years.
>>
I've only ever heard a couple of country albums but this is one I really love.
>>
Johnny cash - live at folsom prison
>>
Start with some classic outlaw country
Willie Nelson
Waylon Jennings
David Allen Coe
Johnny Cash
Charlie Daniels
Hank Williams Jr.

If you like the cowboy stories listen to Marty Robbins.
If you want to see how country started and became what it is listen to Hank Williams Sr.
If you want to hear very dark and mournful country listen to Johnny Cash's America IV & V

If you're braindead and like when the singer screams at you about how country and manly he is then listen to Florida Georgia Line and Toby Keith.

I desperately want to enjoy country, but i feel like there's about five artists holding up the integrity of an entire genre, the rest is pure garbage. Trying to find a unique, enjoyable country experience is a battle....

Forgot to add:
>Sons of the Pioneers w/ Roy Rogers
>Marty Robbins

I feel that looking for a 'unique' experience when listening to country is where you're making a mistake. A lot of country follows the same templates and stuff, it's exceptional song writing that always gets me interested.

This guy knows what hes talking about although i dont know how he could put a list of outlaw county together without including Billy Joe shaver
>>
listen to chris stapleton and sturgill simpson. modern country but classic sentiment.

as for old country here's a few entry level albums

Willie Nelson - Redheaded Stranger
Hank Williams - 40 Greatest Hits
Kris Kristofferson - Kristofferson
Townes Van Zandt - Live @ the Old Quarter
George Strait - Clear Blue Skies
Johnny Cash - American IV
Randy Travis - Old 8x10

Is there anything even resembling Dylan lyrically?

>old country
>american iv

le shiggy

Agree with this guy. Country takes pride in being the music of the every man and their relatively simplistic sound reflects that.

Roger Miller is one of my favorites. Sense of humor, great songwriter, great entertainer.
