Why did the punk rock genre die out? It used to be very popular in the late 90s and early 00s
>>73718195
It was co-opted by the mainstream, turned into radio-friendly pop punk, and lost the hate and aggression that used to make it great
Punk still has a following, and there are various fests and such. Rock itself is mostly dead in the mainstream and can't really be rebranded any more.

punk rock was a cultural revolution in the uk.
where as in america it was just a kind niche thing for rich kids who wanted to rebel vs their parents. it never dominated america so it was destined to die off. tho to tbf grunge was the actual punk revolution of america

I guess I meant modern noise rock, as you claimed it lives on.
I'm familiar with Albini.
There is still lots of punks where I live despite not having had a scene for years. It's pretty weird but these punks have been there since I'm a kid. I think it's just part of the culture now.
