Would you guys consider Alexisonfire to be skramz? I had an argument with a friend recently where I aruged that their first two albums were definetly skramz. However, he argued they were post-hardcore. I almost never see this band brought up here
>>
I also read an interview recently where I found out they used to be big fans of pg 99?

Your friend is correct. You are not.
>>
>>73637558
If you listened to a song like "counterparts and number them" you're telling me you wouldn't consider it screamo? How so
>>
>>73637558
What musically about that first album isnt skramz?
>>
>>73637592
Screamed vocals =/= "Screamo"

I love Alexisonfire, and love screamo, but they're not screamo. At least not pure screamo. They may have screamo elements, but they're predominately a post-hardcore band.
Screamo is shit like Orchid and Circle Takes The Square. It's typically louder, faster, noisier, and more emotional, with few or no clean vocals at all.
Post-hardcore, or at least the early 2000s iteration of post-hardcore, is closer to emo and pop music, featuring poppy choruses with clean vocals, cleaner production, and more conventional song structures.
>>
>>73637722
nah you're thinking of emoviolence. there's tons of bands utilize clean singing and melody as well as hardcore influences and screaming and are still considered screamo. Like You & I, Portraits of Past, and too an extent, Saetia
>>
>>73637722
I'm well aware scream vocals does not mean screamo. (But thanks for treating me like your dad or your friend who only likes drake and young thug) Angular twinkly guitars, high pitched yelps, blast beat drums, unconventional song structure. These are all central elements of the first alexisonfire album. These elements are also central to skramz. The production on that first album is also lofi as hell. I've listened to all of the bands you've mentioned and more. In your opinion is it just the clean vocals that disqualifies that album?

No worries. Glad wikipedia is your go to for what genre a band is. Go listen to honeywell and come back to me later.
>>
>>73637517

the only thing that should scram is you.
>>
>>73637902
I've been listening to post-hardcore and screamo music for over 10 years. I can tell the difference, and I don't need Wikipedia. I'm trying to explain the difference to you without being an asshole, because you seem like you have great taste in music, but you're making it difficult. Alexisonfire fits in snuggly with other early 2000s post-hardcore bands like Chiodos and A Skylit Drive. Listen to their first albums and EPs and you'll find that Alexisonfire sounds more similar to those releases than they do to Saetia, Orchid, or Pageninetynine.

Orchid are literally the fucking poster boys for screamo. Not emoviolence.
>>
>>73637592
thats melodic hardcore

boyyyyyyyyy
>>
Mate, your friend is right. You can call Alexisonfire whatever you want, but don't come here and ask for our opinion and then insult the people who answer you.

Also, if you're going to samefag, make it less obvious.
>>
>>73638239
OP here I'm not actually the guy talking about emoviolence. Last thing I posted was the Indian Summer song.
>>
>>73637558
unrelated question, but what other skramz band's sound like I hate myself? 10 songs is my fucking jam, I like how it's still raw and aggressive but more melodic than most of the violence shit
>>
>>73638239
also disagreeing and debating =/= "insulting"
>>
>>73637517
this whole argument is gay as hell

that being said they are posthardcore
>>
Alexisonfire is definitely a post-hardcore band.

But since they hardly get discussed here, I just want to say that that first album of theirs is so fucking good. Probably my favorite post-hardcore record. Such incredible energy and emotion. The conviction and passion in their playing was such that the first few times I listened to it, I did not notice that it completely avoided typical song structures. Also if I'm not mistaken, Pulmonary Archery is the only song on the record that actually has a chorus. Adelleda, Where No One Knows, The Kennedy Curse, and Pulmonary Archery are total fucking jams tho.
>>
>>73637558
are i hate myself really considered screamo?
>>
Death to false screamo.
>>
>>73638320
>this whole argument is gay as hel

agreed.
at the same time, glad to see them talked about here. s/t and Watch Out! are some albums I hold close to my late teenage years. I was always a sucker for the clean vocals vs scream vocals and Dallas Green has the most beautiful voice. Not to mention the energetic guitar work.

to anyone looking for something similar
