anyone wanna discuss Elliott Smith?
I think he's criminally underrated, no one fucking listens to him and his music was amazing
listened to one of his album the other day.
nothing special, but I could understand why people like him so much
A lot of people fucking listen to him. But ya, he's underrated and should be considered one of the best artists of all time.

which album did you listen to? his discography is interesting because each album seems to have a different direction/feel
>>73567788
Either/Or
I still got his other stuff, I'll be listening to it at some point
>>73567750
>I think he's criminally underrated
are you fucking kidding me? he's praised across the board and massively popular.
the only good indie artist

that's a great first album to listen to. Roman Candle is super raw, his self titled is a little less so but channels some really intense stuff, XO plays with sound in an interesting way and focuses way more on the dynamic of loud/quiet and building a wall of sound, and Figure 8 is just him doing his thing. From A Basement of a Hill is something else.

do you talk to people outside of this board about him? I've been trying to find people who listen to him / convince people to listen to him for more than a year. I've talked to upwards of 50 people about him and its really hard to get your average normie to give him a chance beyond Angeles and Between the Bars. which is a shame because he made pop music, his music is super fucking accessible. yet for whatever reason he just doesn't seem to catch on.

go to art school

and just because some people heard "Between the Bars" in Rick and Morty doesn't mean he's not underrated. what's your favorite album of his? have you heard his demos? he has a bunch of demos that are better than a lot of songs on his albums
>>73567862
but I don't wanna be an aurtist
>>73567862
Literally this
How do I get into s/t? What are the best songs from it? I already like Roman Candle and Either/Or.

His music leaves a sour taste in my mouth these days. When I was in uni I shared a house with these two guys who were nice and all but they were completely happy and fulfilled in their life which pissed me off. They always used to play Elliot Smith albums in the evenings and sit there looking satisfied with their lives, gently nodding their heads.
How dare they?

Either/Or is probably his "canonical best" but his discog vary a lot, this one kinda bridges his more lo-fi first couple albums and the more lush studio productions that follow
personally i like from a basement on a hill a lot, it's probably more favorite and it kind of has a different sound from anything else he did
Listened to a few of his tunes on youtube recently, pretty cool. What album should I start with?
>>73569731
hey hey I just recently got into s/t
personal faves are christian brothers, southern belle, and single file.
>>73569798
thats fucking surreal
>>73570779
start w either/or and branch out from there. his earlier albums are more lo-fi and singer/songwriter-y and his later albums are bigger and shinier but they don't lose any of the charm or sincerity
