good news everyone it is time for an occasional
musical self-check thread
remember if any of these apply to you, work your
best to become a better listener and enjoy music
for the music!
Your listening is flawed if:
>you listen to it for the lyrics
>you listen to it for the scene/era of the music
>you listen to it for how sophisticated it would sound to a normie/how confusing it would seem to a non-enthusiast
>you listen to rap
>you listen to it because you imagine yourself performing it (common among rockfags)
>you listen for how much work was put into it
>you listen for the story behind the record/artist
>you listen to it to remind yourself of a girl/good old times
>you listen to it because your dad showed it to you
>you listen to it for how wacky the time signatures/tempo are
>you listen to it because it is validated by critics
>you listen to it cause others do (unlikely that you do this because most people here want to be a special star)
>you listen to it for contrarianism
>you listen while playing video games
>you listen to it as a attachment to your character/personality
thats all for now. if any apply, remember to avoid that feeling/music
anon what is the right way to listen to music please tell me I don't want to be doing it wrong on accident, I'm new here :/
And the biggest one, kill yourself if you do this
>you listen to it because you enjoy listening to it

I unironically agree.

do that just ignore the second line

one of the first signs of realizing that ones taste
applies to this criteria is repulsive behavior.
it is ok to feel this way because you are one step
closer to improving your ears
That's why i listen to metal almost all the time. It's the only music i can naturally get attached to without having to contemplate anything.
It's like it was made to be listened by me.
>>73547372
that just means you're like OP just scared of leaving your comfort zone
sad desu
>>73547393
huh
I literally had to leave my comfort zone to
achieve untainted musical enjoyment.
I used to enjoy music for all its non musical reasons.
it took effort to purify it, music is a beautiful thing
and if you need superficial things like the ones listed, for
you to get more feels from your music, then either A your music
sucks or you just naturally aren't a big fan of music. maybe another
form of art may scratch that itch for you
>I listen to music because fuck, what else am I gonna do
>>73547443
accurate
I listen to music because they use music in porn so it must be good
a good way to get started is to listen to classical.
no one really gives a shit about classical so it doesnt have a crowd for you to try to fit in to look cool.
it doesnt follow an image because we dont know/depict what attitudes people had back then so you can't listen to it to act/look a certain way.
it is made purely with the intent of sounding beautiful and displaying the beauty in gods voice, it wasnt made to woo girls or give the finger to the last generation. It is purely inspired by music and that is it. If you listen to classical and it bores you then listen to it more. like anything else on /mu/
Listen to mainstream classical, even beethoven's 5th symphony is a beautiful piece of work that often flies past our head because it is used so often
in mainstream media that we forget to actually listen closely to it, its become background music to dog treat commercials.
Close your eyes if you have to, its a kind of meditation, and focus on the sounds only, the intervals, what feels good, whatever seems to be saying
something
The only reason I listen to the pretentious hipster garbage recommended by pitchfork and /mu/ is to fuck hipster chicks
>>73547598
you may be right because music in its pure form
can be a very boring thing to some people
so you're making a good point.
it dies at some point and may be a good path to getting fucked

Oh, it's another thread about people pretending to have outrageous opinions, and people pretending to be angry about it.
