What's so bad about it?
>cheap
>fun
>easier to learn than many other instruments
>can put a twist on a lot of your favorite music
Is it just the image of the basic white girl that makes people hate it?

it sounds like absolute garbage
If you want to have a comfy, small, portable instrument, get a violin, a flute or at least a harmonica
>>73526113
Sopranos, maybe. But I like the sound of a concert ukulele.

Violin would be cool, but wouldn't your 20's be far too late to learn such a difficult instrument?
Nearly everyone learns one or two songs and a few basic chords and think they're hot shit, basically guitar in the 90s and 00s. Problem is everyone gets shitty cheap ukes made of low quality wood or plastic so it sounds like absolute trash but they can't tell since they're the most basic level "musicians" out there
Ukulele can and has been done well, but it has to be a good ukulele and you have to have actual talent of your own, just like any instrument, but no one gets one these days to actually invest time and money into it, just to show off on tumblr or trying to look cool at school

So it's an image thing?
>>73526202
It's never too late
I have nothing nice to say about ukuleles but I do acknowledge their existence
>>73526307
If by that you mean most people play it for attention yeah
>>73526331
everybody needs attention
>>73525616
Worst possible tuning, why the fuck are the low strings in the middle?
>>73526202
If you want to be part of a professional orchestra, yeah, it's way too late. However, you can still get to a somewhat decent level even if you try to pick it up during your 20's. Actually, I'm doing this.

*insecure teenagers relying on others for their own self worth need attention
Would rather play charango baby
>>73526392
If I didn't have attention I'd probably go insane
>>73526383
I guess it could be fun but violin only really sounds good when played with other instruments. I could go for like a David Cross a la King Crimson thing, but my interest in violin pretty much ends there, unfortunately.
even a melodica would sound better than a uke. The plastic strings are like nails on a chalkboard.

Uke is my favorite small instrument thingy I've found so far, but I'm still looking around.
>>73526186
You can go even deeper. Baritone ukes are basically four stringed guitars. Still portable but have a fuller sound
>>73525616
I have a bass uke I take camping with me so I can keep up on practicing
