A highly successful and popular artist, such as Miley Cyrus, could put out a harsh noise single tomorrow and just because people saw the name Miley Cyrus it would hit the top 40. By the same token, some no name anon could write the objectively catchiest and most accessible pop song of all time and post it to their soundcloud and get 30 listens.

To the other point, standard 4 chord pop which follows patterns that have been proven to be successful over decades is easier than writing a good song in almost any other style. There's not much more to say about that, if you think otherwise then you are just wrong, but that's ok, we're all wrong sometimes.
