People who buy the Jim Root signature tele have got to be retarded. It's almost twice the price of an HH tele which you can "upgrade" and make better for a way lower price.
>>
>>73405165
Bass player here. How do you guys lock in with a drummer? I have a session tommorow, and I'm trying to practice on youtube drum fills, and I'm just not getting it. I've seen tutorials and discussions about the kick drum, but everytime I think i got it the drum section goes off into something off. I'm not able to follow it. Any tips?

Probably a stupid question but...

How do you get into pedals and effects? How do you know how it will sound before you buy it (or is trying before buying a must)? How do musicians know how to combine effects and pedals to get that sound they want?

How do I get into guitars? Like the actual instrument? How do I know what makes a good guitar (wood, metals, etc.)? How do I learn things like "Fenders are for jazz (I think that's right)"?

I know i'm asking some dumb shit, but...

how do i into singing and playing at the same time?

i can do it if i play/sing very simple chord patterns but is it possible to learn how to completely disconnect your singing and playing, so you can play the rhythm part and sing "over it" without any difficulties?

completely disconnect probably not. singing over rhythm is something you learn with practice and it's not as hard as it seems at first. singing and playing lead is much harder

Literally just go look up the major scale plus modes and then add in major and minor pentatonic you can fit chords in your scales and you can move your scales anywhere on the fretboard just remember the octaves for each scale so you can play notes and then fuck around with chords in that scale and see if you can move them around the guitar and have them still sound good

>posting again because I have a gig in a few days and I don't want to break my cab and everyone's eardrums
I have my amp set up like pic related. When I activate the effects loop with the footswitch for the first time, I can hear a loud 'POP' noise in the cab. When I switch it off and on again it doesn't happen, but it will do it again when I hit the switch after a few minutes of playing without the loop.
I know it's the delay pedal, should I move it? Will it actually damage the cab if it happens too much?
>>
>>73413286
Use the boost and delay through the input of the amp. Going through the efx loop will make everything a lot louder. I only use noise suppressors in the loop. At least try it.
>>
>>73413312

Calm your tits son, I already tried using the Delay pedal straight into the input of my 20w Blackstar and it sounded terrible. I put it in the effects loop and it worked well, I assumed it'd be the same with the 6505.
I was just wondering if anyone here had the same problem and knew if it damages the amp/cab, but I didn' want some faggot listing his amps and acting all high and mighty on a chinese pottery forum, that's for sure.

I've tried a Suhr Standard Pro and although I think it's a very well built guitar. I can't get over the price. I mean its made of the same components as 99% of all guitars out there and is basically just a Strat design with a few mods so why does it cost so darn much?

The Standard Pro is $3,793.84 not including taxes, shipping or duties in Canada.

You can probably build something quite similar using Warmth parts for less than half the cost. I don't get it.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this.

Mostly scale patterns imo. Keep in mind that the limitations of the VHS format meant that the instructors featured in the videos couldn't launch into detailed theory explanations for every lick, and the popularity of shred guitar put the ability to play anything quickly (usually commonly-used alternate picking and legato lines, as well as sweep arpeggio licks) on par with Olympic-level athleticism (Paul Gilbert said something similar in an old Guitar World interview). That said, those old videos still present some great patterns for building picking speed, and you might find some advanced theory and chord stuff in older jazz guitar instructional tapes. The Shrapnel Records guys were all playing the same harmonic minor, pentatonic, and diminished licks, which don't take a ton of music theory sophistication to string together (even Shawn Lane's videos don't expand too far into the theory side of things beyond explaining diminished and altered patterns).

Strat, probably. I switched from humbuckers to single-coils too and the Strat body was more conducive to the kind of upper-fret access I was used to from playing metal.

Hey friends, I have a question for some of the more experienced players.

I'm a relatively inexperienced guitar player (had lessons for half a year, then messed around on my own for a couple years. almost 19 now and started following JustinGuitar) and I was wondering if I'm getting too old to still get really old?

Over the last 2 years my love for extreme music was rekindled and I've started practicing as much as I can. I wanna get real good, so do any of the more experienced players have practice routines / tips on practicing / tips on getting into a band / making it with a band to share?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What acoustic would you get for lead playing? I already have a Martin 000 but it's too delicate of a sound for aggressive playing imo.
>>
>>73418995
You are never too old to learn something new, in fact, you never stop learning.

I do not have a routine. Just practice when you are feeling like it. Do not turn it into a chore. (eg. "omg I have to practice my scales today but I'm not feeling like it damnit I hate guitar" )

Always practice with a metronome.

To get into a band, simply use the internet. Look up craigslist, put up an ad, use facebook groups like Music Discussion (pretty good group)

Hope you make it anon

anon i was just like this, i bought a gibson flying v back in 2015 and i loved it to pieces, sadly being the inexperienced player i was i just didnt enjoy playing and sold it because i thought my playing wouldnt improve, 2 months down the line i needed money and sold it so i bought something cheaper with the left over money (a fender jaguar), i liked that but sold it because it wasnt the v, bought an epiphone explorer, really liked the neck but it was an epi, and i didnt want to be the guy who had a gibson one month and an epi the next
>enter 4 months of various guitars including a bass vi

i managed to wrangle the funds to buy another gibson flying v by working all summer, i loved this one too, it was a bit fucked and worn but it was my 1st proper gibber (the one before was a faded series, e.g poor mans gibbo)

i ended up selling this too for a fender jaguar HH, and thus the cycle repeated myself, i ended up briefly owning a fantastic fernandes which i really miss, but i now own another gibson v, which is probably the best guitar ive owned yet

tl;dr

stick with the highest value/best one, and just push past the want to sell it, you will regret it

etching, classic route copper+iron perchlorate. i dont like smt, they make pedals harder to fix when they go wrong. i dont advertise, i make custom boutique shit. ive done some originals and lots of modding over existing designs.

I want to understand where the flip flops come into play. I mean, a flip flop is a digital component and an audio signal is analog so do you just overdrive the input until it's rectangular and then send it in? No problem! I love talking/recommending music, much more than talking about gear/equipment which people get too bogged down in and then forget to learn anything haha.

And yeah, learning jazz is sort of an endless pit where each time you start grasping a new concept, you learn that you know even less than you thought (this process repeats ad infinitum). But playing around with smooth voice leading ,extended harmony, and substitutions is so satisfying.

Damn...

>>73426747
Let's use C Minor for example. The third is Eb instead of D# because D natural is in the scale and E natural isn't. And on the other hand, look at E major. The 7th note is a D# instead of an Eb because E natural is in the scale and D natural isn't.

And if you mean why would you call the major scale built on that tone Eb major instead of D# major, it's because Eb only has 3 flats in it, D# has 5 sharps and 2 double sharps which is just a mess

Some sub 150$ pedals are really good.

Mooer are fine. they don't usually make high-end pedals but they give you an absolutely excellent value for the money you pay

how do you solo over cause weve ended as lovers? just mix c minor and c major by ear?
>>
>>73405165
I have a p90 in neck position and a humbucker in bridge position. The humbucker is significantly louder when I play it solo, is that normal? I also have a coil split for the humbucker so when I put it into single coil mode it's roughly the same volume as the p90.

Would you say that's a normal setup? Should I wire the humbucker parallel/single coil instead of serial/single coil so the volume jump doesn't happen?
>>
>>73435139
raise the p90 and lower the hb

>>73433822
whatever you're trying to do but can't, just do it slow and a little faster each time
>>
>>73435218
Yeah obviously that works, but then the single coil bridge sound would be more quiet than the p90. My question is whether you'd have the single coil or the humbucker at the "correct" volume or if I should just wire it to parallel instead of serial
>>
>>73435303
>My question is whether you'd have the single coil or the humbucker at the "correct" volume
me? i'd set the humbucker at the correct volume and have the single coil for cleans
>>
>>73435355
So it's just a matter of preference? Hmm, makes sense. I basically had it as "I run it in single coil mode 90% of the time and go for the solo humbucker for high gain", I don't know which one is actually more practical though.
Also, what speaks against parallel humbucker wiring? Then the volume of the humbucking mode and the single coil mode would basically be the same.

Its literally one of the best metal guitars ever created. Fuck Ibanez and Shecter and all those cucks.

You take the best electric guitar, put in some EMGS and strip down the electronics to the bare minimum and you got yourself a useable metal axe.

>So it's just a matter of preference?
yes its matter of preference
>I basically had it as "I run it in single coil mode 90% of the time and go for the solo humbucker for high gain"
thats a good plan too
>Also, what speaks against parallel humbucker wiring? Then the volume of the humbucking mode and the single coil mode would basically be the same.
it sounds different than regular humbucker sound; try it, maybe youll like its sound. might be a good wiring for you since you want the humbucker and the splitd with even volumes

Had a disaster of a gig last night, I play in a hard rock band and blew my amp up halfway through the set. Only spare I could borrow right away was a fender twin from another band and it obviously didn't work properly at all with any of my pedals as they were all set up and geared towards my JCM 900. Nothing I did on the spot / between songs made it sound good and it really threw me.

Do you guys take spare amps to gigs? Never something I had really thought about before, but now I am considering getting one.

Yeah that is a very fair point. It sounded fucking awful though, not from a vain guitarists point of view, it genuinely did. Felt bad letting the band down more than anything, although they did all laugh at it after.

it's not even your fault, i'd be more concerned over my jcm900 than a shitty gig
having a backup amp is ideal but i've never had anything like that. i mean even if i went through the trouble of getting one i'd probably end up not even taking it because of the space it takes up

>>73435790
>>73435829
i guess it could be that someone cared but in a not so great sounding live show most details are lost anyway

Cheers for the input, it wasn't a total disaster as we still managed to finish the set, but it really threw me off and we sounded weak. I'm half considering picking up a cheap AVT head or something to take along so if it happens again, I know I will be able to get an ok sound from a backup but sods law is it will never happen again.

Hopefully the amp is fine and it is just a valve or a fuse or something. Haven't looked at it yet, next gig is a week away so plenty time. First time it has let me down in 6 years so I suppose I can't really complain too much.

if you really want to get a spare amp then just get some cheap solid state amp. people will appreciate the effort more than how it sounds.

unless you're playing shows where you make like $500+ no one is going to bitch at you for not being prepared for something like this.

I've been busy trying to tell /pol/ trump is bad in the past few months.

But i mean, i feel like i should come back to visiting /mu/ and all. i live only once and arguing with people in /pol/ and trying to convince them their ideology is wrong, even though i feel like i'm doing it for a good cause, is not the best experience

Yeah I remember playing through an AVT150 once and it was perfectly fine, and they are really cheap second hand. I'll sleep on it, but like you say we are nowhere near professional - just having a bit of fun. Felt bad to let them down though
